One is the Brooklyn, New York, NY based post-punk project of Ashley Kossakowski and Johanna Healy.
Another is the Hamburg band created in 1998 by actor and song writer Thomas Esser (voc, git, tp).
Initially a quartett with Jan Exner (git), Henning Wörner (b) and Tim Weiland (dr).
After the mysterious death of Tim Weilands in Berlin in 1999, Stef Möhle joined the band..
In this time Tobias Vethake (synth, cello, voc) also joined .
In the same year "groupie" signed a contract with the Hannover Label Enola Records (a WEA-subsidiary) and record their Debüt-Longplayer "minigolfen" (produziert by Marcus Wichary), released in April 2000.
In 2001, in preparation of the second follow-up album Enola Records goes into bankruptcy and "groupie" loses their label contract. A couple of months later Jan Exner declares his intention to leave the band.
Once again a quartett, "groupie" continues to work on new songs. However in November 2001 Henning Wörner dies in a tragic flight crash near Zürich. This loss has left the band in a deep crisis from which it has so far unfortunately not rebounded.
