Gutt was originally the lead singer of Dry Cell, but as of November 2017, he became STone Temple Pilots' third singer after the deaths of Scott Weiland and Chester Bennington. Gutt has appeared in two seasons of the American reality television series The X Factor. He first appeared in Season 2 (2012) when he drew international acclaim for his heartfelt rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," before being eliminated in the following "Boot Camp" episode. Gutt competed in Season 3 (2013) of The X Factor USA, finishing in second place. He has now formed a band named Rival City Heights.

Having spent a lifetime writing songs and performing with various bands across the country, Jeff has built a reputation as a strong frontman, captivating audiences of many age groups and musical tastes. Perhaps best known for his work with the now-defunct Dry Cell, Gutt can be seen and heard these days fronting Band With No Name (BWNN) and performing solo/duo gigs in the Detroit area. He also performs with a cover band Punch.
