Joel Kaiser & the Devil's Own are a 5 piece hellbilly band from Montreal that has been together since the spring of 2008. The original meeting of Joel and lead guitarist Chris Robinson actually occurred several years before this. Legend has it, both were drunk on the metro when Chris complimented Joel on his jacket. A few minutes later, and Joel was tapped to play drums for Disgruntled, Chris' band at the time. Joel had known Steve for a few years as well, having met during Steve's first visit to Montreal from his home province of Newfoundland. Steve eventually moved to Montreal with The Embarrassments, his band at the time, to play music and was driving Zamboni for a living when Joel asked him to join the band in 2008. This completed the original lineup of The Devils Own, and they played their first show on June 13, 2008. The band continued as a trio, and in December of 2008, they recorded their first LP, "Honky Tonkin til the Coffin," which was released by Indiana based label Devils Ruin Records. They have also been featured on several compilation albums which Devils Ruin have also released. 2009 started with a bang for The Devils Own, when they joined forces with upright bassist Charly GoPsycho from The Hypnophonics, and 2010 was kick started by the addition of Jason Lariviere on banjo, completing their current lineup, The band is currently writing and playing regularly, and are putting the final touches on their first full length album, "Leavin' this Life Behind," which is set to be released in the summer of 2010.
