She distinctly remembers the brilliantly lazy melodies of James Taylor drifting throughout her living room as she grew up, and after shamelessly rocking out to cassette tapes; Jars of Clay, Hanson, Caedmon's Call, Space Jam, and Christmas with the California Raisins to be precise, Kacie slowly began to realize that this wasn't just a playful hobby - it was, for lack of a better term, a burning passion that would only grow as precious time began to pass.
After slaving away at the ivories for a few good years, she abandoned her education of piano for the pursuit of becoming a barefaced rocker. She used all $200 of her prized savings to purchase a wicked jet-black electric guitar; courtesy of Ibanez, with an itsy-bitsy amplifier to boot. Soon thereafter, though times had been engaging, she came to the sweet revelation that she was not, in fact, cut out to be quite the punk rocker she had always envisioned herself becoming. So she traded her star-studded style in for something a bit more, well, "chilled out." Her very first acoustic guitar had been acquired, and she labored tremendously for the next seven years of her life to become somewhat of a master over the instrument.
For a few years in high school, Kacie co-wrote with a good friend of hers until graduation, which inevitably put the two of them in the limelight of the stage. Being the uncannily shy child she had been, it shocked most, even Kacie herself, to accept the fact that her calling was that of the public eye. It took a good few years for her to become completely comfortable with the idea, but eventually, after reaching the realization that her songs actually beheld power and inspiration, she unavoidably knew by her first year in college that she wanted to write music for the rest of her life.
Moving Forward
After seven years of taking lessons with Frank, a 75-year old musical guru who absolutely adored Clapton and Metallica, Kacie decided to move forward. Attending John Brown University in Siloam Springs, AR, she had much time to grow and cultivate the part of herself that was extremely passionate about leading worship. "When I have the privilege to lead, I ultimately strive to bring conviction and joy into the hearts of God's people. I feel that there's a time to jump around and rejoice, and then a time to simmer down and let your heart become still. It's that kind of silence within the soul that I love being able to initiate."
Ideally, Williams believes that her destiny in life is to combine those two passions of songwriting and leading worship to advance the kingdom and to showcase two very different mediums that the Lord has blessed her with an ardent zeal for.
Her debut studio project, The Smoke EP, is available on iTunes and displays the genesis of something she will continue to do for many, many moons to come. She is in the process of recording a second record that will even more-so exemplify her ever-growing maturity in writing and development of artistic individuality.
In Her Own Words
"I have made the decision to use this gift for the sake of His kingdom in the way He trusts me to do so. I'm not saying that I can't and shouldn't write about relationships and love and the like; rather, I'm saying that it should be my job to find the strands of divinity within those humanistic issues. I want people to see God in every song, every show, every melody, every creative expression. I want to have a specific direction and implication in each undertone of my writing. I have never intentioned to be cheesy, typical, or mundane. It's an incredible challenge, but I'm absolutely willing to take it on. Others have, and I have witnessed their success. I think it's my turn to receive the torch and be well on my way to proclaiming the message of freedom."
