A multi-instrumentalist, playing drums, guitar and singing, she writes and composes her own music and lyrics. Quiet and shy, she expresses herself magnificently with her exceptional musical talent. “I just write songs about the things that go on around me or stuff that’s happened in my life, and it seems like people really respond to that,” says Kendra. Having no formal music or voice training, she comes across as a natural to all who have heard her. She's been described as a multi-talented young lady with a unique voice signature.
Born hearing impaired, the New Brunswick native from St. Andrews By The Sea underwent 3 corrective surgeries and by the age of 4 had her hearing restored to almost 100%. She was introduced to music at a very young age by her brother, Keith, and picked up on it very quickly, using pots and pans as drums to accompany him. She started playing percussion in her school band at the age of 10 and has been in a number of local bands since. Introduced to guitar at the age of 12, by 13 she had written her first song, ‘Second Thought’. The City of Saint John’s Rock Camp 2004 was Kendra’s first opportunity to perform some of her songs solo which earned her a standing ovation. She also performed on the “Members Only” stage and the “72 Hour Jam” at the 2006 ECMAs in Charlottetown PEI and the 2007 ECMAs in Halifax NS.
Kendra recorded her first professional CD which was released on August 28, 2006 and described by Bob Mersereau of the CBC as “… a strong debut, the work of a confident songwriter, offering a rocking edge to her acoustic-based tunes.” The CD also generated radio airplay on stations such as WCRQ 102.9 Calais/St. Stephen “The Hot Rotation”, The Wave 98.1 “Home Brew”, Capital FM 106.9 “East Coast Music” and CHSR 97.9 UNB Radio Fredericton NB. She also made #13 on Olive's Brain Indie Radio “The Top 20 Albums of 2006”, where her song “Second Thought” is at # 1, received “Best Provincial Female Folk Artist“ with the Toronto Exclusive Magazine Online Awards for 2007 and “ Best Provincial Folk CD Album” for 2008. Kendra released her second CD “Moments of Nothing” in September 2008. CD number 3 "Paper Blankets" promises to be original and fresh and was released September 2010. Kendra is performing at venues all over the Maritimes.
