Larry was born in Beaumont, Texas on January 1st 1982 . At a young age Larry was drawn to music hearing all the old time country like Hank Williams and The Grand Ole' Opry to the classics from the 50's like Fats Domino,Jerry Lee, Buddy Holly and of course Elvis from his grandparents. What laid the foundation and what really made Larry want to be in the music business, play the guitar, and be a performer was believe it or not Garth Brooks.
When he saw the way Garth was on stage and the incredible amount of energy and showmanship Brooks put in his shows to please the crowds right then is when Larry knew what his future would be. Larry goes on to say "when I first saw Garth Brooks I said thats exactly what I want to do, so in 1991 I was 9 yrs old and I went to my dad and begged him to help me get a guitar and finally he did. It was a Jasmine acoustic, but to me man it was the finest thing I'd ever seen.
"For a long time all I ever wanted to do was strum the guitar and sing just like Garth did. I really didn't have any desire to be a lead player" Well, that all changed in 1995 when his stepbrother moved in and brought his music collection with him, and in this collection was Jimi Hendrix. Larry say's "thats when my world just flipped man, I'll never forget the first time I heard Hendrix, the song was Voodoo Chile Slight Return and I was hooked and as I began to read about him I started hearing about guys like B.B. King, Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, Robert Johnson and so on.
Jimi lit the fire and showed me what my new destiny would be, and then, I discovered Stevie Ray Vaughan and been a Bluesman and Blues lover ever since. Thanks Jimi" Since that time Larry has been in a couple of different bands playin around his hometown of Beaumont Texas and surrounding areas learning his craft and his chops and in 2003 starting his own band under his own name.
Larry is self taught, but he did take lessons at the begining to learn the basic chords but after a couple of disputes with his teacher Larry quit the lessons and began learning on his own. Larry has always stayed true to the blues but does like to do a country tune every now and then like something by Garth, Hank Sr, Waylon, Cash, Gary Stewart and even some Elvis, but he's never left the blues.
In his hometown what's big here is Texas Country which all the people call red dirt music, or red dirt country. Well Larry has played all over the area and in Louisiana and built up a nice following and he calls his music red dirt blues. Larry has had the honor of being the opening act for groups that have come to Beaumont such as: The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Bobby Blue Bland, The Kentucky Headhunters, Alan Haynes, Guitar Shorty, The Boogie Kings, Ian Moore, Gregg Martinez , Tab Benoit and Clarence "Gatemouth"Brown.
Larry never stops practicing and playing. On any given night he can be found bringing the house down in some local venue with his 3 piece band and dynamic and fiery performances that leaves the crowds spellbound. His band is Robert Smith on drums and Rick Fissett on bass and these guys are two of the top musicians in his area. Larry's stage show is where the real experience of this young guitar slinger and his band is.
Since Larry plays wireless you never know where you'll find him, you'll look and he's on stage one minute and the next, he'll be out in the middle of everybody sitting at a table just playing for the people or got it laid down on the table playing it like a steel guitar with his fingers, or a slide or even a beer bottle. He loves to be close to the people and tries his best to make them feel like there apart of what he's doin and he truly is the "real deal" of what an ENTERTAINER should be.
He pours his heart and soul out in every performance he gives, and every note he plays, and walks away at the end of the night soaking wet. I try my best to get people involved in what I'm doing and try my best to entertain them and at the end of the night I hope they'll say Man, were coming to see you guy's again. If they leave and there saying that then I feel we've done our job of entertaining them and knowing they had a good time "
