Her self-produced debut album ’...and they will teach us
that eternity is but the standing still of time...’ finds her moving from guitar to banjo and harp, her technique appearing primitive and visceral but the overall effect of the songs, arrangements and her unique voice proving to be absolutely magical and profoundly emotive. To describe her as an English Joanna Newsom would do no disservice to either one.'
-Vortex, Will Rees/Electroacoustic club
Mixing a range of influences from folk, alternative country, americana, modern classical and free jazz, Laurie McNamee blends her musical education with a love for the purity of simplistic musical styles to produce an overall unique sound. Combining her voice with layers of sound scape consisting of guitars, harp, banjo, bandolin, clarinet, cello, percussion, guitar feedback and electronics, she shows her love of experimentation while remaining to keep the listener hooked both aurally and emotionally.
Lyrically, she sings abstractly, sometimes only muttering sound shapes and on occasionally breaking into other languages for example her Swedish lyrics in 'Eyes low' courtesy of Ola Lempke (the other half of her duet bluebeard). Her live shows offer an insight into her love of the arts, combining visuals and installations from London based artists captincaptin (www.captincaptin.co.uk) and often offering a random selection of additional musicians to add to the live arrangements of her compositions.
