Lion-I singlehandedly recorded and produced his two debut albums "The Chant" and "New Root Race"during the first decade of the New Millennium and 2011 releasing full albums in 2011 and singles in 2007 forward.
Lion-I musical style is best described as Reggae Fusion taking its main influences from Roots Reggae, Dub, Dancehall, Rock, Ambient/Downtempo, World, and Trance. Through unique lyrics, music, and art Lion-I promotes consciousness and inspiration, while aiming to elevate and expand collective consciousness.
The meaning behind Lion-I is being the master of your own destiny, having determination to reach your dreams, and following your life’s calling. Lion-I is wordplay on the concept of “I and I,” as opposed to “you and I.” It’s a philosophy of human equality and elevated collective consciousness.
Lion-I (real name Pasha Yushin) experienced life in three different ends of the world: Russia, Southern California, and Hawaii. At a young age he traveled throughout Europe, Scandinavia, and the Mediterranean. This global exposure enabled him to achieve a unique perspective on life and reflect it into his artistic vision through music, art, and lyrical philosophy.
From childhood his creative focus was towards drawing and painting. At the age of 10 Lion-I was given the privilege to personally deliver a gift collection of his school's best drawings including two of his own to Queen Elizabeth II.
Lion-I fascination with the ancient world was sparked by 5th grade art and history courses. It never stopped growing now comprising a significant part of his lyrics, music, and art. In the 8th grade Lion-I joined the La Colina Jr. High School concert band on tenor saxophone and continued performing through grade 11 at San Marcos High School in Santa Barbara, California.
In high school Lion-I got a taste for mixing tracks of popular artists using his home computer, however, surfing and skateboarding with friends were his favorite after school activities at that time.
Lion-I acquired true love for Reggae music and its message growing up in Santa Barbara. Although he comes from a musically inclined family, his drive for creating original music wasn't until starting college when his roommate showed him the E minor chord on acoustic guitar. From that point in time Lion-I taught himself how to play the guitar, write songs, and produce music.
His relentless love for music led to two worldwide independent debut album releases in 2011: The Chant and New Root Race. Both albums were completed by Lion-I in their entirety including: lyrics, arrangement, instrumentation and vocals, CD cover design, recording, mixing, mastering, and release.
“The Chant” and "New Root Race" are available worldwide on iTunes, Amazon, CDBaby, and other digital retailers. Lion-I is currently working on his 3rd album to be released in 2012. He performs at various Oahu venues and occasionally creates oil paintings on Kalakaua Ave. in Waikiki.
