Attending a show of a band of close friends, Gary had hung around after the show to find his friends in a bit of a deep funk and when asked the reason they said they had a show in another town in two days and needed a drummer because their drummer was leaving the band. Being that he enjoyed his friends' band and heard them perform so many times he offered his help telling them he could carry a beat on the drums and could cover the gig until a replacement was secured. That sub gig turned into a year of playing drums for his friends and put Gary into a new musical role as drummer.
Since that time Gary has gone on to play drums and sing with many regional bands in many musical styles including Lazy day, a reggae band the extensively toured the southeast and also toured and recorded with Jamaican reggae stars Tinga Stewart and Earl 16.
