MICHAEL HOLT weaves together elements as diverse as Beatlesy pop, Cecil Tay… Read Full Bio ↴MICHAEL HOLT weaves together elements as diverse as Beatlesy pop, Cecil Taylor-esque experimentation, Scriabin-esque classical, and Fellini-esque lounge. Whether this takes place switching between piano and guitar at an intimate solo show, in a duo or band gig, or at a full MH Ensemble performance with strings and woodwinds, the result is an emotional and highly entertaining journey which in the end is not about any type of music, but about music itself.
(1986-2007) ...has released six albums of his original music:
- college charting album by Michael's first band, released by the late Hilly Krystal's CBGB label in New York
- two albums featuring members of They Might Be Giants, Lounge Lizards, Lisa Loeb, and Ron Sexsmith, and Cowboy Junkies, released on Fang Records in NYC
- split-cd with indypop band Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin released on Catbird Records of catbirdseat.org blogging fame
- two albums self-released, including the new CD "Windows"...
(1990-1998) ...was integral member of highly acclaimed creative-pop band The Mommyheads, with whom he toured North America extensively, developed cult followings in every major U.S. city, and released several albums, the last on Geffen, produced by Don Was. A Mommyheads retrospective is to be released next fall by Oregon label Bladen County Records...
(1998-2007) ...has been long standing member of San Francisco based prog-improv outfit Mushroom, collaborators with members of Gong, Soft Machine, and Faust, with whom he has toured Europe and released seven albums...
(1999-2007) ...has been an active member of the Toronto music scene, collaborating and recording with such artists as Ron Sexsmith, Bob Wiseman, Don Kerr, Brian MacMillan, and Mia Sheard, and touring the UK twice with David Celia.
