His interest in hip hop production was sparked by Too $hort's "Life is... Too Short." The production on Public Enemy's "It Takes a Nation of Millions..." and Young MC's "Stone Cold Rhymin'," Oldie's first tapes, further piqued his interest in the beats.
By the age of ten, Oldie became the resident beatboxer on 11th St. Growing up in the Mid-City district of Los Angeles afforded him opportunities to comb this unique section of L.A.'s thrift stores, record stores, and neighbors' record collections. Raiding his father's stash didn't hurt either. This multi-genre collection of records would be Olde Soul's DJing selections and beatmaking instruments. This pastime also kept Oldie out of some of the negative situations in and around the neighborhood...
Blood, sweat, years, classic collaborations, and solo projects later, Olde Soul prides himself on being the "Soul of the City," with a style best described as vintage, yet avant-garde. Olde Soul himself remarks "I shoot straight for the heart when I create. Hopefully, y'all wonder whether to drink away the pain, nod your heads in pure bliss, or do both when you hear this right here."
