1. American noise-rock / punk rock band from Madison, Wisconsin formed in 1991, Pachinko emerged as a prominent force in the local noise rock scene in the early 1990s. The band underwent various lineup changes throughout their career, featuring talented musicians who contributed to their unique sound. Over time, Pachinko included members such as Brian Blum, Brian Brecht, Chris Hornung, Greg Norman, Matt Quigle, Mike Henry, and Sean Wipfli.
Brian Brecht, the singer/guitarist of Pachinko, brought a unique blend of interests and talents to the band. Known for his passion for alternative psychopharmacology, Brian explored the world of remedies and flavors outside of music. In addition, his work as a big boned mixed martial artist and his inexplicable sexual magnetism added physicality, violence, and perversion to his presence on stage. A Gretsch guitar, Brian's instrument of choice, added a distinct sonic quality to Pachinko's sound, providing an intriguing element to their music.
In 1996, Pachinko released their debut album, "Behind The Green Pachinko," on the Alternative Tentacles label. This album showcased the band's distinctive noise rock sound, characterized by abrasive guitars, energetic drumming, darkly humorous lyrics and raw vocals. "Behind The Green Pachinko" became a notable release within the noise rock genre, capturing the attention of both local and broader audiences.
Following their debut, Pachinko continued to evolve and refine their sound. In 1999, they released their second album, "Splendor in the Ass II," also on the Alternative Tentacles label. This album further solidified Pachinko's reputation for their intense and experimental approach to noise rock. With tracks that pushed the boundaries of conventional rock music, "Splendor in the Ass II" showcased the band's ability to create chaotic and immersive sonic experiences.
Throughout their career, Pachinko's live performances were known for their high-energy and unpredictable nature. Their shows captivated audiences with their raw intensity and a willingness to push the boundaries of their music.
While the band eventually disbanded, Pachinko's impact on the Madison music scene and the noise rock genre remains significant. Pachinko's contributions to the noise rock movement continue to inspire and resonate with fans of alternative and experimental music.
