In October 1931, Ruth Willis had an initial recording session with Blind Willie McTell, recording four tracks that were released on two singles. The singles appeared under the names Mary Willis and Ruth Day respectively.
A week later, she recorded two tracks for another single, this time featuring Willie McTell and Curley Weaver. Again her name was given as Mary Willis.
