With her cute voice and lively personality, she won over the producers, judges, and audience of the show, and was placed in the "AIS Debut Troop" with a handful of other girls. For the next few months, Yuko continued to shine and attract affection from the audience, and soon recorded a demo tape for Pioneer LDC. One month later, their decision was announced on-air - Yuko had made the cut and was signed to their label. After nearly a year of hard work and promotion, Yuko's debut single, "koi wa C'est si bon", was finally released in September 1997, debuting at the respectable position of #29 on the Oricon charts.
Yuko had a very good start compared to many debuting artists, though unfortunately, her next two singles and first album didn't gain much notice. But much of that changed when her early 1999 single, "PURE SNOW", garnered that attention back to Yuko. Although its highest position on the Oricon charts was #29, the song itself was actually a very big hit, both in Japan and even more so overseas. "PURE SNOW" also brought about a new producer for Yuko, Naoto Kine, who helped create a dynamic shift in Yuko's musical style. Her songs became much more mature and serious, contrasting the 70's styled bubblegum pop sound of her previous works. Her second album, "PURE", was inspired by this change and managed to consistently showcase it very well. In November 1999, Yuko did a cover of REBECCA's "London Boy" for a tribute album to the band, and a few weeks later released, "pray/gyutto zutto...", which would become her last solo release.
Yuko continued to make guest appearances on various talk and variety programs throughout 2000 and soon became the second half of a female duo called "Plum Planets" under the stage name "Yuko-p". The duo appeared on the indies scene in mid-2001 with their popular single "FEMINITY", and were soon signed to Dreamusic Records where they continued to release music until early 2003. More information about PP can be found here.
Where is Yuko today? Back on the music scene as it would appear! In May 2006, Yuko released her first single in over three years. "sajou no yume" was featured as the opening theme for the "The Third ~Aoi Hitomi no Shoujo~" TV anime series, and is also the first maxi single Yuko has ever released as a solo artist. The CD is distributed by Columbia Music Entertainment, so it is expected that any future works by Yuko will be distributed by them as well.
