Croissant (his real name) after the death of a close friend. What started as one man, some songs and an anagram has since become a band with two critically acclaimed self-recorded albums under its belt.
"Blue Born Earth Boy" – One Little Indian Records (2006)
"Building Humans" – Blood Light Recordings (2008)
Sine Star Project play eclectic music, unified by beautifully delivered vocal melodies and propelled by dramatic, bombastic arrangements. They follow the credo that more is more; Building Humans includes over 35 guest musicians, featuring stirring strings and a complete brass band, in addition to the small arsenal of instruments played by Sine Star Project themselves…and they nail it live!
The overall impact is highly charged, it's emotional music delivered in a grandiose style. Sine Star Project's influences are hard to pin down, a few elements point to some of the great classical composers, but rock influences are also apparent including Queen, Led Zeppelin, Jeff Buckley, Sound Garden, Muse and Pink Floyd to name but a few.
The band has a strong DIY ethic. Croissant engineers and produces all of the recordings and has built his entire studio from the ground up, painstakingly recreating racks of vintage pro audio gear. Other members of the band also build their own equipment including amplifiers and vintage effects. The DIY approach extends to the business side, the new album Building Humans was released on their own label – Blood Light Recordings.
Following tours in 2006/2007, Sine Star Project have continued to gig around the country and the line up of Croissant (guitar/piano), Mike Davies (guitar/pedal steel), Ben Rowley (bass), Matt “Metro” Shmigelsky (Drums) and Nathan Thomas (keyboards) are developing a fearsome live reputation amongst those in the know.
