Featuring platinum-award-winning producer Lewis Richards, and select artists from 17th Street recording studio in Costa Mesa, Stone Ave is a reggae-rock/pop/hip-hop machine crankin’ out quality tunes and ready for business. In just three months since forming the band in late June 2010, Stone Ave has already released an 11-track debut full-length album, Lose Control (featuring the single “Slow it Down”), which showcases a breadth of musicality and invention only achieved through the wide range of influences and flavor the featured artists bring.
Stone bounced around the underground Los Angeles circuit working with various hip-hop producers, spitting truth about life experience with which every man can relate. He first sharpened his MC skills while attending UC Santa Barbara and gained attention on and around campus, infusing his fresh sound with soul, rock, and reggae, drawing comparisons to Atmosphere. His lyrics are as real and heartfelt as it gets.
Lewis Richards’ resume speaks for itself, having worked alongside Sublime, Mary J. Blige, Sting, Slightly Stoopid, and most recently produced the number one single “Lay Me Down” by The Dirtyheads feat. Rome. Lew has a ridiculous amount of musical knowledge from years of cutting his teeth as a professional musician and honing his supreme skills as a producer and engineer.
Micah Brown was discovered on the local singer-songwriter circuit in southern Orange County, tirelessly performing and spreading powerful vibes to the locals through his original so-cal soul-folk music and humble disposition. He was recruited to the 17th Street family and it was immediately realized that his blues-infused guitar playing, vocals, and writing-style would enhance the Stone Ave sound.
Also alongside Stone is JDQ (Justin Quinn), who brings an edge and grit exposed through a lifetime of experiencing the joys and pains of humanity. His emotion pulses through his music, inciting audiences to groove right along with him. JDQ reflects these emotions through influences ranging from early punk and ska to roots reggae to hip-hop, and this dude flows like a volcano when it comes to freestylin'.
Lose Control showcases 11 tracks featuring these four artists, with appearances from Ronnie King, Delly McGregor, KAT, and Juan Rios (Seedless, Tomorrows Bad Seeds) on vocals and keys; Stone Ave is anchored by Dave Paul Dutt on drums and R.J. Mills on lead guitar.
