She blends passionate, catchy lyrics with extraordinary arrangements, and tops it with her unique and soulful voice. She began writing songs at a very early age in her hometown of Crockett, TX and like most singers, she started singing in church. She amazed the town with her talents and passion for music and fell in love with the piano around the age of 11, but no one would teach her how to play. While attending college at Prairie View A & M University, Tamika began singing at campus events and finally started to seriously practice piano. There Tamika established herself as a vocalist and church music director in the Houston area. After receiving her Business degree, she experienced a brief stint in San Antonio, but realized that her music was not being recognized enough there so she moved to the Houston area. Since moving to the Houston area,Tamika Handy has learned guitar, honed her pianos skills, and written many more amazing songs. She opened for rapper Talib Kweli in 2010 and has featured at Houston venues Skol's Bar and Grill, G's and Z's Coffee House, Midtown Lounge, Isis, Red Cat Jazz Cafe, and many more. Her debut album "Open Diary" was recorded live and released July 2011. It is a true expression of her heart and soul.
