Former Faze22 and A Turnaround Life vocalist/guitarist Dylan James formed Autumn Under Fire with screamer/keyboardist Allen Niles, and they started playing shows together. They described their style as "screamotronic", blending electronic music with the vocal style of screamo and making use of live instruments. After releasing an EP called "Time To Take Cover", they recruited guitarist/keyboardist Mitchell Willard, so Dylan could sing without playing the guitar. With this three-member lineup, the band released their second EP, called "Crash The Scene", and their first music video for their song "Birth of a Hero" featuring J-Dub.
Mitchell left Autumn Under Fire in late 2010. To replace him, Allen and Dylan found lead guitarist Tim Howell, rhythm guitarist Tae Kim, bassist Collin East and drummer Jake Smith. The band changed its name to The Last Sleepless City. Their style was more pop-punk-oriented than Autumn Under Fire's, but kept the influences from electronic music and post-hardcore. They released a CD in 2011 and gave away copies at live shows.
The Last Sleepless City went through a large number of members over the years. Allen, Tim, Collin and Jake left the band, and were replaced by guitarist Vinnie DeRise, bassist Harley Marcel and drummer Mike Battista, who was Dylan's longtime friend and bandmate. Shortly after, Vinnie DeRise was replaced by vocalist/guitarist Tyler J. Whiting. In 2011, the band released an acoustic EP called "Words To Say" and a single called "Christmas Valentine".
In mid-2012, all the band members except Dylan left the band. Dylan started searching for musicians to replace them, and he found guitarists Guy Petrie and Juan Rodriguez, bassist/guitarist Evan Guffin, and drummer/keyboardist Cody Simmons. With this new lineup, the band recorded an EP called "Ignite The Stars", which is the most popular EP they released to date.
Guy left the band in 2013. Following his departure, Dylan, Evan, Juan and Cody played mainly acoustic shows. They also released a cover of "Jamie All Over" by Mayday Parade and an acoustic version of their most popular song, "Dreamers Never Die".
In early 2014, The Last Sleepless City announced its brand new lineup : Dylan on vocals, Joel Van Wie on lead guitar, Julian Alexander on rhythm guitar, Logan Garcia on bass and Jonathan Riley on drums. They released a cover video of "Let It Go" by Idina Menzel, and gained a great number of fans with it.
Shortly after, Joel parted ways with the band, followed by Logan. In May 2014, Dylan started uploading many covers on the band's YouTube channel. Two of them featured Julian and Jonathan. For those songs, Dylan and Julian shared guitar and vocal duties, Dylan being the lead vocalist and Julian being the backing and co-lead vocalist. One of the covers also featured former drummer Mike Battista.
On July 27, 2014, The Last Sleepless City played for the first time in the Vans Warped Tour. The live band featured Dylan, Jonathan, lead guitarist/vocalist Benjamin Jimenez from The Starlight Getaway and rhythm guitarist Thomas Filbert, from Secret Keeper.
Since then, The Last Sleepless City is a solo act, with Dylan playing all the instruments on the new material. He does covers, along with writing and recording original songs for his upcoming album, "Constellations". The album will also feature reimagined versions of The Last Sleepless City's early singles "Survive Tonight" and "Arrhythmia", their popular song "Dreamers Never Die" and Autumn Under Fire's "Birth of a Hero".
Dylan is competiting to play Warped Tour 2015. His band will feature Benjamin Jimenez on rhythm guitar, Jonathan Riley on drums and one of his former bandmates, Vinnie DeRise, on lead guitar.
The Last Sleepless City's latest single "Big Ideas, Bigger Hearts" was released on June 9th, along with a music video.
