The current line up consists of Simon Skjødt Jensen (Own Road, Sim & Mon, The Fields, The Big Dust), Robert Skammelsen Schmidt (Death Tothe), Robin Neil Hart and Anders Strand. Each bandmember can be relegated to loosely defined roles (drummer, guitarist, bassist, vocalist, organist, percussionist and so forth respectively).
The Means was originally named Black Star Sapphire (from 2006 – 2008), and under this name the band have expressed a wide variety of influences, ranging from the freak folk scene over noise rock to avantgarde. As a result of these influences, the bands early work was very diverse and unorthodox, and was not defined by a specific sound or genre. From autumn 2008 the bands sound developed in a different direction, where samples and electronic sounds was being adapted into the soundscape, thus creating a new and more crisp sound, which is still undergoing a rapid development. It was also in this period that the band changed it’s name to The Means – a name that encapsolates the essence of the bands new sound much better – for now anyway.
The band also runs the the record label How About Death? Records on which they have released their own material.
2) The Means were formed when Jason Fredrick (former Spiveys, current Love Story in Blood Red) joined up with Brad Swiniarski (former Bob City, current Vespin frontman, Emily & Dave Allen (Bloody Matt Dillons) in Columbus, OH. An amazing band that continued to explore it’s sound with each release. A little Jesus Lizard, Nation of Ulysses, and a little Modern Lovers. Released 3 albums, 2 for doubleplusgood, in a little over two years before calling it quits.
3) Punk rock from Japan.
