The Portlands are 5 piece rock band based in Manchester who play a distinct… Read Full Bio ↴The Portlands are 5 piece rock band based in Manchester who play a distinctive brand of Folk Rock to an ever growing fan base who appreciate a real guitar based style of rock music.
Formed in 2009, the Portlands comprise Dook Dootson (guitar and vocals), Nick Dunai (lead guitar), Tim Isherwood (rhythm guitar), Dave (‘Ishy’) Isherwood (bass guitar) and Max Winnington (drums). The band have toured
extensively playing regularly to sell out gigs around the north of England including a headline slot to a 10,000 festival crowd.
With a rich heritage of experience already to their name the Portlands have already achieved notable success. The summer of 2010 saw the band go state-side with a trip to Skyline Studios over in New York to work with Nick Miller (Billy Joel, Patti Smith, Julian Lennon and others). Whilst there, The Portlands laid down 10 full tracks and 10 acoustic tracks which lead to the release of their EP Peace, Love, Soul. Press coverage, interviews and radio play followed, including interest from a variety of music promoters and industry representatives.
In March 2011 The Portlands headlined their slot at Manchester Academy 3 with support from good friends – 2010 Live & Unsigned victors – The Lottery Winners. Following that success the band have enjoyed further air play by the BBC and others and have returned to the Academy several times to sell-out audiences again inspiring them to raise their aim to larger venues and to develop further associations with like-minded artists.
In August 2011 The Portlands recorded four new tracks with legendary guitarist and Independent producer Jerry Donohue. The resulting work returned to the states for mastering in January this year and is now ready to be launched as the bands new EP.
After their latest release on the 11th June 2012 entitled ‘Noctilucent’ The band release a single, with accomoanying music video, called 'Every Word I Sing (Is A Lie.) and performed another headline set at Manchester Academy.
They then hit the road in October 2012, heading first to Holland and then for a full tour of Germany.
In November of 2012 they signed a new management deal and started setting the plans for the next European tour, in March 2013, as well as preparing for their next release.
2013 will be a very busy year!!
