The group was formed in Houston in late 1979, and were originally known as The Flirt, with the lineup of Terry Carolan, John Rempe, Manual Martinez and Rick Holman. Within six months the band had recorded an album of material, renamed the band as True Hearts, and released an EP of four songs pulled from the album. During their two and a half years as a band, there were multiple personnel changes, and several other songs were recorded. These included the anthemic "Everytime", released on the KLOL radio Talent In Texas Album in 1981, and four more songs recorded in 1982 for what was intended as a followup EP.
In the fall of 1982 True Hearts disbanded due to the stresses of constant travel and growing artistic differences. During their two plus years together the group recorded a total of seventeen songs. Other than the 1980 Counterfeit Records EP and the Talent In Texas album, the songs remained unreleased. The True Hearts album is the complete album recorded in early 1980 under the original name of The Flirt, and with the group's original lineup.
