Keep On Smilin'
Wet Willie Lyrics

Well you say you got the blues,
Got holes in both of your shoes,
Feelin' alone and confused,
You got to keep on smilin', keep on smilin'

Yeah, you're about to go insane,
'Cause your woman's playing games
And she says that you're to blame,
You got to keep on smilin', keep on smilin'

Keep on smilin' through the rain, laughin' at the pain
Rollin' with the changes 'til the sun comes out again
Keep on smilin' through the rain, laughin' at the pain
Rollin' with the changes, singi'n this refrain

Singin' in a honky tonk cafe,
Nobody's hearin' what you play,
They're too busy drinkin' anyway,
You got to keep on smilin', brother keep on smilin'

You say you found a piece of land
Gonna change from city boy to country man
Try to build your life with your hands
You got to keep on smilin', keep on smilin'

Keep on smilin' through the rain, laughin' at the pain
Rollin' with the changes til the sun comes out again
Keep on smilin' through the rain, laughin' at the pain
Rollin' with the changes, singi'n this refrain

You're just hangin' out in a local bar,
And you're wonderin' who the hell you are
Are you a farmer or are you a star?

Keep on smilin' through the rain, laughin' at the pain
Rollin' with the changes til the sun comes out again
Keep on smilin' through the rain, laughin' at the pain
Rollin' with the changes, singi'n this refrain

Your experience almost completely mirrors mine with respect to:

"people didn't know her like I did and how truly amazing she was! It made/makes me sad. i could tell by the comments my family members made that it was true."

That exact sentiment has been mulled over, "grokked" by myself..

Obviously I'm me and you're you, so our merging Venn diagrams diverge..

Me and my mother used to have some big-time, drag-em-out, rock 'em, sock 'em "disagreements"! But we always got along just swimmingly:) well,; I say always, but that's a bit of a stretch..like you said, and true of my mom as well, she "had faith in me to eventually realize my wrongs."...I tested that faith too often and too blatantly when I was younger..but, wizened up a bit as I got older...we had many years where we actually did get along great and I have to say that intellectually, "conversationally"...I really miss the hell out of her!!

She once told me that her mother told her that a key to maintaining a good relationship is to never go to sleep without "making up" with someone with whom you've had a disagreement..I always applied this advice regarding my mother. It worked..no matter the disagreement, we didn't let it affect our love for each other..it was considered difference of opinion..no more, no less.

Anyways, another difference is that over the years I have hinted to various family members when the negativity would invariably begin that:

"you know, maybe it's not an issue with her, but with you, that you still bring up all these past issues and instances that she supposedly caused you! get the fuck over yourself!"(embellished for effect, but you know what I mean..I did try to convey it in a subtle way)

..but my subtle hints usually fell on deaf ears..

But a while back during a kind of a "get together", I did finally state pretty much what I just wrote in the quotations..I felt good about it and I still do. What I said at the time was a little less blunt(I left out the "get the fuck over yourselves" part), but it kind of needed to be said.

What you wrote had some deep impact on me..it's reassuring in some way to know that there are other(probably many, many other) people out there who share the same struggles as I do..It gives me some connectivity in a universe

My wife left me after 17 years, she thought I would be in a wheelchair, for the rest of my life.....I had 2 major spinal reverse paralyzation surgeries and a shoulder reconstruction.
Her and some of her girl friends said I looked 25 years older than I am and I was a constipated "Fat Elvis"....But, 6 hours after surgery, I got up and walked to the elevators and back...Because I could not walk before the surgeries..I proved that moment to myself that I would "Make A Comeback"  So after a very rough road I am walking again, back at the gym and have already lost 45+ pounds.Long story short, my Dad sent me this tune...Saying "it helps me thru my rough patches in life".. Amen to ya Dad and to all my family and friends..."Just do it" was my daily moto thru the horrible, blinding pain and to this point today..I am in the top 5% according to my surgeon..and am still a few months away from being a full year after the surgeries......"Keep On Smiling"

You go David, pray if your not still recovering that you are recovered!, let your heart, soul and mind and spirit recover along the way. I came on here to hear this old ass song lol, I had forgotten it, hadn't heard it in decades, I kid you not,..just channel surfing and came across a movie with a couple of my fav actors Kim Coats(he was in one of the Resident Evil movies with Mila), and like maybe 15 min into the movie, this song comes on!!, unexpected pleasant surprise!, lol I couldn't jump on here fast enough to see if I could find it, couldn't remember who sang it to save my life,.
just been so long, so much music I soaked up back then, there's always some new music revolution, and you forget who came before, sometimes I think the music industry moves to fast, we should take a minute and enjoy music before it so calls becomes outdated,..for me music from the 1970's,
won't become outdated, huh in fact every time I turn on a show, movie, commercials even, every one of them is dipping back in the past, even as far as Louie Armstrong, and beyond. Just love it, huh maybe some.of these Ad guys, gals, producers and directors are as old as me,..lol thank God,..and thank God they remember, so much has happened, pray you and family are still around, whether, or not, God Bless, Godspeed, 🙏
