He uses his music as a way to escape from routine and from composing constantly finally created this new character. He is the advocate of a new genre he defined as 'techypnopop', a mashup of technical, hypnotic and hip-hop. He's been actively composing under this artist name since 2002, but he studied classical music for over 15 years. His lyrics speaks of conspiracies to geek-partying from technology to love.
Zu ND Odyofilz started doing music at a really early age. He learned to play flute, then violin during those 5 years. During high-school, he specialized himself into clarinet and played in the orchestra of the school. He was somewhat feeling turned down by his teachers and began writing his own compositions as soon as Secondary 2 (equivalent to 8th grade) around 1997. The composing period before was not something that spectacular, but he was actually pretty talented as his parents can confirm.
The name Zu ND Odyofilz came after multiple changing 'artist names'. Zu the Killa and DZKilib were amongst those left out nicknames. The decision came around 2002, where the meet up of local underground singer/guitar lead Max T. during his career led to changing times as Max T. was evolving around acoustic music while Zu always had that electronic/hip-hop touch behind his ideas. Zu 'and the audio files' was then established, making the link in the fact that he was primarily working alone with his own waveforms.
After some years composing this new formed style, he entered the myspace arena in mid-2006 and that's where most of his current definitions on design and concepts come from. His views on technology by being an hardcore power-user has given him insight into some technologically-related content, bringing some fresh post-2000s cultural references and reasoning. He writes in a abstract manner and rarely give two songs the same tone. Voice and pitch are constantly changing due to his hyperactivity, curving a path artists usually doesn't publicly show and at an average of 120 BPM, it became more and more productive (8-9 songs were posted per day during the first two quarters of 2007).
Listeners will need multiple sessions to understand what it's all about, and that's what he loves. Living in Montreal is somewhat of a drag because of a language barrier (his almost complete real-life social network is french-speaking, making things tougher to grasp in the Montreal's underground hip-hop scene).
He started writing in French and doing multiple freestyle sessions during his teenage years but gradually came to an almost 100% english repertoire, often misleading to him to keep writing in an historical way (making past-conceived songs cross-linked and quoted) while having 'virtually' no one to challenge or bring something to his projects.
