With authentic, leather studded rock and roll swagger and unforgettable live stage performances, Damn Right’s explosively unapologetic, fast paced rock sound compares to none other in their home country, leading many to hail them as the current saviours of a genre that the mainstream has been all too quick to forget about!

In May 2007 Damn Right ventured forth from their Cape Town underground lairs and boldly rolled north into Gauteng; land of corporate rock and M.TV sound-alikes, on a mission to promote their rock ‘n roll values to the lost and rock hungry masses. There they delivered their sermon of “Sleaze Rock” to a single crowd of well over 1200 people, holding their own in a formidable line-up of legendary and long established SA rock, punk and ska icons the likes of Fuzigish and Hog Hoggidy Hog.
Damn Right’s manicured rock stylings caused a media frenzy, resulting in rave post-gig reviews and feature interviews in SL Magazine, blunt magazine and a live in-studio interview on leading Pretoria campus music station Tuks FM, who would also be the first radio station to air the Heartbreakers single.
As word of Damn Right’s power stage performance spread hundreds of eager new DR fans cast their votes in an online poll of which bands fans most wanted to see perform at the 2007 Oppikoppi music festival (South Africa’s biggest, longest standing three day music festival) in August.
Unfortunately, tight budgets meant that the band’s fans had to be content with seeing them perform live instead at the Oppikoppi spin-off event Ampli5 in Cape Town (where the band again shared the stage alongside the cream of SA rock talent and big-name International acts the Violent Femmes, Jimmy Eat World and Groove Armada.) Damn Right rocked the joint and not for the first time in their lives had Damn Right converted an entire arena full of music lovers into Damn Right groupies!
Since then, the band have continued their progressive South African onslaught, notching up record attendance figures at gigs and winning over fans in all corners of South African society as they defy the norm and re-invent the rules of what it means (and takes!) to be a world class rock ‘n roll act.
As much as they love their homeland, the band has their sights firmly set on conquering the globe, and are busy establishing their digital profile to satisfy their fast growing worldwide fanbase.
In September 2007, due to heavy fan demand, the band officially released their first single ‘Heartbreakers’ available for free mp3 download; with an accompanying music video that is edging its way into high rotation on most major South African music television networks.
The band also entered the studio to officially begin production on their five-track EP ahead of a return tour to Gauteng (Johannesburg and Pretoria).
Damn Right remains fiercely independent. Watch them go!
