Paper Tiger
Dry Kill Logic Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I have seen what's left for all the rest of you
And its not what you think it will be
For the gift and the curse of what's been shown to you
I can't believe what I feel it is taking
Never give, never bend - its all a lie to you
And all you do is seem to remind me
Of all the times and the ways I would have died for you
And this is all the thanks that you'll show me...

If you would show
The light for me
The things I'd known
That now id see

This is - not the same not now, never, no not again
When the dreams and the truth came colliding
And the same can be said for all the rest of them
See the strong and the weak divided
Yet i feel alive
For all the pain I have
And all you do is seem to remind me
Of all of the times and the ways I would have died for you
And this is all of the thanks that you'll show me

If you would show
The light for me
The things I'd known
That now id see

If you would show
The light for me
The things I'd known
That now id see

Energy as i feel it calling
Cannot see through the cloud that's forming
Blinding as it passes before my eyes
Looking for the thing that's calling
Now I see that its coming after
Now I see that its coming after...me

If you would show
The light for me
The things I'd known
That now id see

Overall Meaning

In the song "Paper Tiger," Dry Kill Logic talks about the disappointment and betrayal one can feel when they realize that their expectations for others were not met. The lyrics suggest that the singer had high hopes for certain people in his life, but as he saw what they became, he was let down. The singer seems to be conflicted about his feelings because he acknowledges that he would have died for them in the past but now feels like it was a waste. The lyrics, "Never give, never bend - it's all a lie to you," emphasize how the singer feels that the people he trusted didn't live up to their potential, while the line, "See the strong and the weak divided," emphasizes how the people he once respected are now disconnected.

The chorus in the song emphasizes the pain and desire for something more, with lyrics like "If you would show the light for me, the things I'd known that now I'd see." The singer wants to see the good in people again or perhaps be shown that what he thought was true about them was never there. The last verse shifts in tone and adds a layer of mystery to the song. It describes the singer feeling an unknown energy and looking for what is causing it. There is a sense of urgency and foreboding as the singer realizes that whatever is coming is after him.

@Justin Widle. I think a lot of the modern Nu-Metalcore/Nu-Metal influenced Metalcore/Deathcore bands took a lot from early Deftones. Deftones early on basically took elements from Hardcore/Post Hardcore while taking other elements from Metal and Rap.

You also had Biohazard crossing over from NYHC into the Pantera/Groove Metal scene while having some Rap influences. Bands like E Town Concrete and Downset came from the Hardcore scene but also had Metal and Rap elements. And obviously Beastie Boys in the mid 80’s crossed over from the Punk/Hardcore scene into the Hip Hop world.

So I would say Biohazard, Downset, E Town Concrete, and early era Deftones are very early examples of the template for that modern Nu-Metalcore sound, while also taking elements from KoRn, Slipknot, SOAD, Mudvayne and early era Linkin Park with their modern Metalcore influences of stuff like Architects etc etc.

I think a lot of modern Metalcore bands are being heavily influenced by Deftones, KoRn, Slipknot, SOAD, Linkin Park and even Mudvayne. And as I said especially early era Deftones.

But as a Nu-Metal fan I don’t think it works, because the Nu-Metalcore bands just sound like usual modern Metalcore, they don’t take enough elements from Nu-Metal to really be different than your usual Metalcore. It’s supposed to be a hybrid genre that doesn’t do much of that.

I think the Nu-Metalcore band that took the hybrid style differently was My Ticket Home, one of the originators of Nu-Metalcore. Their album Strangers Only which came out back in 2013 during an era where no Metalcore band was even thinking of doing anything different.

What My Ticket Home did on Strangers Only is the almost opposite way of what most Nu-Metalcore bands do. My Ticket Home’s vocal style was typical of Metalcore, but their instruments and guitar style was very much Nu-Metal, I mean you had the guitarist doing a Tom Morello and using the guitar to mimic DJ scratching.

Most Nu-Metalcore bands don’t do anything like that, instead most Nu-Metalcore bands stick to the usual Metalcore style guitar riffing and breakdowns, while mixing vocal styles between the Core style scream with maybe a rapping section during the breakdown, and then clean vocals in the chorus.

But personally I’m not a fan of Metalcore, I hate the vocals and I hate the guitar style.

What an underrated band just found these guys and have to say one of the best bands I've listened to. I can't understand why they aren't as popular as Slipknot, Korn, etc.

Dwight Conway

the scene got flooded, some mediocre bands got a push, others like Dry Kill, Hurt, Earshot and 40 Grit didn't but still put out high quality stuff as long as they could, Thank god for the Youtube/streaming era shedding light on them and giving a chance for actual exposure

Alfredo M. Rêgo Neto

I think they didn't have the right contacts. Gotta build a network...

Their first label wanted a more commercial sound and they were like fuck that so they left that label and just did stuff on their own for awhile
