Hearts on Fire
HammerFall Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We saw the writings on the wall
When heathens ruled above us all
Tormented we still heard the call
You come to bring us down
Wield the scepter, steal the crown
Time on the throne is running out

'Cause seasons change
But we are still the same
Even though the cold winds blow
The fire burns inside

Hearts on fire, hearts on fire
Burning, burning with desire
Hearts on fire, hearts on fire
Burning, burning with desire
Hearts on fire, hearts on fire
Burning, burning with desire
Burning for the steel
Hearts on fire

For years shunned by society
Outcasts, condemned for our beliefs
Our legions grew in secrecy
And now the time is here
I see the Templars everywhere
The freedom call is growing near

We hold our rebel banners up with pride
The color's crimson and the hammer is the sign

Hearts on fire, hearts on fire
Burning, burning with desire
Hearts on fire, hearts on fire
Burning, burning with desire
Hearts on fire, hearts on fire
Burning, burning with desire
Burning for the steel

Hearts on fire, hearts on fire
Hearts on fire, hearts on fire
Hearts on fire, hearts on fire
Hearts on fire, hearts on fire
(Hearts) hearts on fire, hearts on fire
(Hearts) hearts on fire, hearts on fire
(Hearts) hearts on fire
(Hearts) hearts on fire
Hearts on fire (hearts, hearts, hearts, hearts)
(Hearts) hearts on fire

Hearts on fire, hearts on fire
Burning, burning with desire
Hearts on fire, hearts on fire
Burning, burning with desire
Hearts on fire, hearts on fire
Burning, burning with desire
Burning for the steel
Hearts on fire

Hearts on fire

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Hammerfall's song Hearts on Fire convey a powerful message of resistance and rebellion against those who seek to oppress and rule over the people. The first few lines describe a time when heathens ruled and tormented the people, but despite the oppression, they remained strong and heard the call to fight back against their oppressors. The second verse speaks to the outcasts and rebels who have been shunned by society for their beliefs, but have grown in strength and now hold their rebel banners high in pride. The chorus speaks to their burning desire and passion for justice, represented by the burning hearts on fire, and their unwavering commitment to their cause.

This song can be interpreted as a call to action, reminding us that even in the face of oppression and adversity, we must remain steadfast in our beliefs and continue to fight for what is right. It celebrates the resilience and determination of those who have been oppressed, and inspires us to stand up against injustice and tyranny.

Bad CGI - a crucial part of any true metal video!

@insertanynameyouwant5311

it wasn`t that bad back then, especially for a some sort of budget studio

@otterlydan258

Oh dont go hate on that, take ya freaking luggage and get the hell outta here

@ChristerSvanstrom

I agree, @@insertanynameyouwant5311, it really wasn't. Hammerfall had pretty decent CGI in their videos for the time. It's easy to forget how quickly this field has progressed until we today simply don't expect to be able to tell the difference between CGI and reality. Anyone who wish to examine the rate of progression themself should look at the water in Star Wars Episode II when Obi-Wan visits the cloners and compare it to the same in the video game The Force Unleashed II that came out only months later.

So yeah, this wasn't bad back in the day.

fun fact : I found hammerfall when one day I entered literature class before it actually started and my teacher was sitting there with his laptop and asked if we (me and a couple classmates) knew what manly music is and of course we wanted to know, second later the dude turned on 2 external speakers and started blasting this song

@SasukeUchiha1226

I woudn't define it as "manly" but at least your teacher seems to have a pretty good taste in music

@ivanemilov522

@@SasukeUchiha1226 ye, I think he said it as more of a joke but still it is "manlier" than the kind of shit my class mates listened to (minaj, cardi and so on)

@Ts0bee

fcking legend he is
