Being in a dark hallway is a lot less scary if you imagine yourself as the killer.

The fact that this theme is in 5/4 and gives the feeling of footsteps fast approaching is just so genius. It's one of the best composed horror film themes ever.

I love this song for how it feels like being hunted. That's also why i think the theme for Halloween 2 is an absolute masterpiece. At first you have the slow buildup as the rumor of a killer stalking the neighborhood starts to spread. The music is getting faster, just like Michael is getting closer. Then a second of complete silence, as he disappears. and then the theme kicks in with full force as Michael goes on the hunt and the everstalking footsteps are back. Original Halloween contains the feel of what the movie is about. Halloween 2 theme encompasses the whole movie.

On a whim, I tried to put these notes into a 32 step synth sequencer, and then it hit me, that you are indeed correct, it is 5/4, and it didn't fit. Thankfully my music software does do 5/4.
It has that similar feel in Tubular bells, because it kind of interrupts itself, and that has an ominous feel.
