The lyrics to Admiral Bailey's song "Punnany" are generally understood as a celebration of female genitalia. The chorus simply repeats the phrase "gimme punanny waan punanny" over and over again, as the verses describe different types of "punanny" (a slang term for vagina) and how desirable they are. Bailey lists various types of women and proclaims that their "punanny" is all the same and all equally desirable. However, the lyrics do take a dark turn towards the end, as Bailey expresses fear of contracting AIDS and being killed or shot for pursuing this desired prize.
It has been noted that the song's explicit lyrics and celebration of promiscuity reflect a broader cultural shift in Jamaica during the 1980s and 90s. This period saw the rise of dancehall music and a loosening of social norms around sexuality, with many young people embracing a more liberal attitude towards sex and relationships.

When this came out in '87, it was banned from all the Jamaican radio stations, yet that didn't stop it being THE hottest dancehall tune of the year. This tune cark up dances, rip up the place!

When I was a kid I used to have a Jamaican lady that used to babysit me. Her son and I would sing this song and one time she heard us. That was the last time I sang this song in front of her. My parents didnt know what it meant so I could sing it all day at home π
