The german group Arsen AKA König Der Monster predates Iskra but the term for the sub-genre had not yet been coined and their sound had prominent screamo influences besides the crust. Other groups such as Martyrdöd took crust's framework and played it through a melodic black/death metal lens with unrelenting d-beat and waves of powerful, raw yet catchy riffs. Whereas groups such as Downfall of Gaia injected their neocrust sound with prominent black metal influences as well as equal amounts of post-metallism/sludge, making use of dual male vocals in the form of both black metal shrieks and crust gutturals.
The group Vestiges had a notorious neocrust sound at its core, very inspired by the work of pioneering group Fall of Efrafa but was essentially a black metal version of them, not basing entire songs around d-beat galloping, but rather utilising it as a tool to create tension and release.
Likewise, in the same vein as Martyrdöd (but more metallic) groups such as Agrimonia make use of melodic riffing and black metal vocals and mix these elements with hardcore tempos and sludge crawling alike. In a similar way to Downfall of Gaia, Dead to a Dying World (but more post-metallic) add classical instruments to their overall sound (a common neocrust practice) giving it a very sobre and depressing tone, making use of dual vocals (male and female) also in the form of black metal shrieks and crust gutturals.
Notable group Young and in the Way proposed a sound that was one of the most violent and energetic in the scene with even hints of sludge metal. Wolvhammer started in a similar way, however, later slowed down the tempo and added more black metal influences to their sound.
Meanwhile, Bastard Feast was bordering stenchcore, sludge and death metal with their crust sound and Wake, who sprung up from the crust/grind scenes, slowly began utilising black metal elements whilst still keeping it crusty, grindy and hardcorish plus some death metal and post-/atmosludge to boot.
Another notable group, Tempest put forth a very chaotic and intense mix of crust and post-black metal with high pitched unintelligible shrieks for vocals.
On the other hand, groups such as Dishammer and Kvlthammer displayed a far more old school approach, thrashy and hardcorish alike with the really obvious and classic Discharge/Hellhammer influence.
I Need No Trust
My Bloody Valentine Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It comes through me
Fall fall I'm coming down
(Go inside) and close your eyes
It's just a fool's crown
Sleep deep now
I'll come in anyhow
Love love I need your love
Lust lust I need no trust
Greed seed
It comes through me
Love love I need your love
Lust lust I need no trust
It's just a fool's crown
In "I Need No Trust", My Bloody Valentine describes a relationship in which the singer values physical desire over emotional attachment. The opening lines of "Greed seed, it comes through me" suggest that the singer is motivated by greed and materialism, which they fundamentally can't resist. But the following lines, "Fall fall I'm coming down, (Go inside) and close your eyes, It's just a fool's crown" signify that the singer is aware of their own mistakes or bad decisions, and they want to protect themselves from the consequences of their actions. They need to find a blind spot to hide or to look away.
In the second verse, the singer is different from the first one in that they seem to represent the other half of the relationship. The lines "Sleep deep now, I’ll come in anyhow, Love love I need your love, Lust lust I need no trust" express a yearning for the physical and intimate contact of the lover. The person is willing to dive in and explore deeper levels of passion and physical intimacy with the singer, but without the expected emotional attachment or concern. They are comfortable with the idea of having a purely physical and sexual relationship with no strings attached.
My Bloody Valentine's "I Need No Trust" is a captivating and intriguing song about the complexities of love and desire. It portrays a relationship in which one partner values sexual desire and pleasure over emotional attachment, establishing the basis of a purely physical relationship.
