They had a deep love for Lazarus

That would soon take away their pain

Lazarus saw several important biblical figures who had died before him

And all the others jammed up in a room
Many other souls were residing in this place as well

Moses shook his stick
Moses used his staff to gather attention

Moses called the gathering to order

Moses asked for a testimonial

About their relationship with God

Abraham kicked it off
Abraham was the first to begin

Abraham wanted everyone to understand

That he had a personal relationship with God

He gave a child to my barren wife
God had fulfilled a great desire for Abraham's family

Isaac waived his hand said
Isaac made a motion to indicate he wanted to speak

Isaac had also had a personal relationship with God

Jacob jumped up says
Jacob excitedly stood up and declared

Amen Grandpa, preach it
Jacob heartily agreed and encouraged further testimony

Old dignified Solomon
Solomon, known for his wisdom and reason

Adjusted his robe and said
Preparing to speak, Solomon repositioned his garment

I knew him, He made me so smart
Solomon was grateful for his intellect, given to him by God

Ezekiel said I knew him
Ezekiel stated that he had also had a personal relationship with God

As a wheel within a wheel
Ezekiel was recalling a specific vision he had seen

Job said man he healed me
Job recounted how God had healed him when he had been sick

When I was almost dead
Job was very close to death

Sampson said I knew him
Sampson declared that he, too, had a personal relationship with God

When some Philistines tried to jump me
Sampson was recalling a time when he fought off attackers

I took a donkey jawbone and busted a few heads
Sampson had used a jawbone as a weapon

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego
Referring to three men who had been thrown into a fiery furnace

Said we knew him in the fiery furnace
The three men had confidence in God's power and successfully survived the furnace

Jonah said man he gave me a second chance
Jonah recounted how God showed him mercy when he was nearly lost

Daniel cried out I knew him
Daniel stated that he had a personal relationship with God and was able to endure difficult situations

In a hungry den of lions
Daniel was recalling how he survived an encounter with lions

The Holy Ghost hit King David
David experienced the presence of the Holy Spirit

He just started to dance
David expressed his joy through dance

Lazarus got so excited
Lazarus was thrilled and enthusiastic

He shouted Hey I knew him too
Lazarus declared that he also had a personal relationship with Jesus

Moses put down his stick
Moses ceased using his rod

Said hey who's the new kid
Moses asked who Lazarus was

Needless to say the room got real quiet
Everyone in the room became silent

When Lazarus said But I knew him
When Lazarus declared that he had a personal relationship with Jesus,

In a way you all never did
He claimed to have had the most profound and intimate understanding of Jesus' teachings

You see man I walked with him and talked with him
Lazarus personally spent time with Jesus and had conversations with him

I saw how his teachings awed the crowds
Lazarus was there to witness the impact of Jesus' teachings on people

Those famous tears of compassion I could actually see
Lazarus had a firsthand view of the tenderness and empathy Jesus showed

He used to come over to my house after church
Jesus would often visit Lazarus' home after services

And my sisters would make him dinner
Mary and Martha, Lazarus' sisters, would prepare meals for Jesus

And every month I even supported his ministry
Lazarus financially supported Jesus' ministry on a monthly basis

You see man I watched him confront the Pharisees
Lazarus observed Jesus' confrontations with the Pharisees

I was there when he fed the five thousand
Lazarus witnessed the feeding of the five thousand

I heard the people gasp when he healed the lame
Lazarus heard the reactions of people when Jesus performed miraculous healings

You see man I even remember the littlest things
Lazarus had an acute memory of even the minor details of his time with Jesus

The things that most folks would forget
These were details many people would overlook or disregard

Like the simple, loving way He'd just call my name
Lazarus was touched by the way Jesus would address him

Up at the grave stone rolled away
This line describes the setting where Lazarus was brought back to life

With a loud voice Jesus started to say, Lazarus
Jesus called out for Lazarus using a loud voice

You see it just seems like yesterday
Lazarus is overwhelmed by how vivid the memory of being called back to life is

I could hear that man saying my name
Lazarus recalls Jesus calling for him

Lazarus believes he is hearing Jesus' voice again
