That full lenght 32' Contrebombarde first C is something at the end isn't it ! Regardfull to all for the judicious comments on this video and Peter Van De Velde's remarquable interpretation let's not forget Widor was himself the one to inaugurate this organ in 1892, as he had in great admiration Schyven's work and organ.

As soon as this piece started, I got chills down my spine. I will never be able to fully explain why organ music is so amazing. I don't think there are words in any human language that would do this music justice. Beautiful is not enough.

My goodness. You never hear such wonderful combinations of stops. This guy knows how to make this organ sing to it's full potential. And the organ responds quite well, no waiting for the low notes. Well done. The low C needed some tuning :( haha

Bach's final chorale in the Saint Matthew Passion rouses floods of emotion in the most hardened of non-believers. No one can hear it and not be changed for the better!Thank you for posting this great interpretation of Widor's arrangement!

Boy, I would love to have the score of this song to practice on my new organ I'm about to get this coming week's Sunday! It's now been several years later since I last made the remark mentioning the practicing of this piece, but I've been enjoying my new organ, it's really nice too. It's a Rodgers 645 with a full 32 note radiated concaved pedalboard.

Many years ago I sang in an oratorium choir and Bach's Mattheus Passion was one of the pieces that we sang.
Bach's music is just incredible in the way all the music lines come together.When you sing every part separately you just can't imagine how they turn into one perfect,glorious sound.

I could always tell the difference between a real pipe organ and a synth-pipe organ. Can't beat the variations from a real lever-action pipe organ. Beautiful organ sir.

There are all different types of pipe organ pieces but when you listen to one of Bachs he just launches straight into the most powerful rhythms on the pipe organ.

It constantly amazes me how the interpretation of Bach's music has evolved (revolved?) For years now, we've been immmersed in the spare, baroque, original-instruments (E. Power Biggs-ish?) versions, & it tends to make us forget that, once upon a time, these lush, Romantic verisons were all the rage.

extraordinary ! A super-great organist and componist in love of the giant JS Bach : what a great tribute ! Thanks also Peter Van de Velde, in playing this magnificent instrument in Antwerp Cathedral. I love it... as well as these Cavaillé-Coll of ST-Ouen/Rouen, St-Sernin/Toulouse, ST-Sulpice /Paris a,d so many others french, german, dutch organ.(I'am french, without any doubt...)

Rest on, dearest Lord, rest quietly in peace!" so says the final chorale from Bach's 'St Matthew Passion'.
You must admit the organ when used properly and with the right technique can create a terrific pathos, like any other musical instrument when played and leave its audience completely awestruck. Bach, in my opinion, alongside his librettists were truly masterful in their craft in creating and reflecting works of such beauty, both sacred and secular works alike. it really takes someone really talented to interpret these things accurately enough to be savored like a fine wine and appreciative of such things, which some people tend to take for granted these days. It amazes me to hear many hard rock musicians having a soft spot for classical music when they're not on the road and even doing their own renditions of some of their favorite classical works. God, how I'd love to hear those being done onstage or perhaps doing them in a recording alongside a symphony and/or choir, even if it's sacred music, just to let some of their fans know they're lives aren't completely hollow and reflect a more spiritual side to them too. Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and others did a few gospel albums, even some old Yiddish ballads and hymns from attending temple services when they were young. When George and Ira Gershwin did 'Porgy and Bess', they visited some of the old black churches in Charleston, including 'singing churches' where the minister 'sang' or 'chanted' the service, making them mindful of them of going to synagogue services during the high holy days when they were young.

Wow! I bet *that* gave the tourists something to think about, especially the 'pneumatic road-drill' effect of the 32' in the final chord. The sound of this organ is like a musical tidal wave; wonderful to behold, but you don't want to stand in its way!

Un orgue romantique de belle facture, riche et équilibré entre fonds et anches, une montre et un buffet splendides, une console qui reprend le meilleur de l'esprit Cavaillé-Coll, compacte et pimpante avec ses ivoires de tirants colorés...Cette pièce méconnue du Maître y sonne juste sous les doigts de son chanceux titulaire..On n'est pas loin du chef-d'œuvre, même si la traction mécanique semble aussi dure qu'à St. Sulpice pour un clavier de moins..

This is a version without chorus, but we can observe so some decoration of the Cathedral as to the details of the pipe organ, especially knobs which are very beautiful.
Maybe pipe organ is the biggest music instrument.

It is known as a tracker organ. The more coupling from manual to manual, the harder it is to press the keys. You need very strong hands to play with the organ fully coupled like it is here.
