Don't Give Up On Us
David Soul Lyrics

Don't make the wrong seem right
The future isn't just one night
It's written in the moonlight
Painted on the stars
We can't change ours
Don't give up on us, baby
We're still worth one more try
I know we put a last one by
Just for a rainy evening
When maybe stars are few
Don't give up on us, I know
We can still come through
I really lost my head last night
You've got a right to start believin'
There's still a little love left, even so
Don't give up on us, baby
Lord knows we've come this far
Can't we stay the way we are?
The angel and the dreamer
Who sometimes plays a fool
Don't give up on us, I know
We can still come through
It's written in the moonlight
and painted on the stars
We can't change ours
Don't give up on us, baby
We're still worth one more try
I know we put a last one by
Just for a rainy evening
When maybe stars are few
Don't give up on us, I know
We can still come through
Don't give up on us, baby
Don't give up on us, baby
The song "Don't Give Up on Us" by David Soul is a plea to a partner to not lose hope in their relationship. The opening lines, "Don't give up on us, baby / Don't make the wrong seem right," suggest that the partner may be considering giving up on the relationship because of some mistake or wrongdoing. The singer is acknowledging that they have made a mistake, as evidenced by the line "I really lost my head last night," but is still asking for one more chance because he believes they can make it work.
The song's chorus, "We're still worth one more try / I know we put a last one by," shows that the relationship has already been through some difficult times and has possibly ended before. But the singer is asking for one more chance, even if it's just for a "rainy evening" when there may not be many "stars" shining. The final lines, "The angel and the dreamer / Who sometimes plays a fool," further reinforce the idea that the singer is flawed but still believes in the power of their connection.
Overall, "Don't Give Up on Us" is a heartfelt plea for forgiveness and a desire to salvage a relationship that has seen some rough patches. The use of celestial imagery throughout the song suggests a certain timelessness and enduring quality to their love.

Don't agree with all your hyperbole of accolades about Soul but I also graduated HS in '77 and this reminds of my Sr year, as well. I also remember him in Starsky and Hutch, Here Come the Brides and his part in a Dirty Harry movie, opposite Clint Eastwood. Just read Soul was married 5x, became a Brit citizen and kept busy throughout his life acting (stage in London, TV and stage in the USA).
