Open Your Eyes
Eric Roberson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can pray for your dreams
Even if that truly means
That if your dreams come true
That I will not be with you... Forever

If I have to understand that it is not in God's plans
For us to hold hands
A course I'm traveling... Together
I don't want to loose you
But you don't smile like you used to

(Chorus)
Open your eyes to see the future
Is open like my arms to you
I'm not too blind to see (I'm not too blind to see)
You no longer have me (longer have me)
So if I have to walk away to say I love you
Then that's what I'll do

I can see it in your eyes
You can no longer disguise
That something's gone wrong
And the feelings are now gone... from this venture
All of those warm kisses you once gave
They now feel like winter days
And snowflakes are fun
But they melt when the sun shines on them
I don't want to loose you
But you don't smile like you used to
My arms no longer soothe you
(chorus)

I can pray for your dreams
Even if that truly means
That if your dreams come true
That I will not be with you... Forever

I don't want to loose you
But you don't smile like you used to
My arms no longer soothe you
My words no longer move you
The kisses you once gave
They feel like winter days
And I love you so
I wont let you (I wont let you) go yes I will (go yes I will)
One day you'll smile
One day you'll be happy
Oh come on, oh come on, open your eyes
Oh come on, oh come on, open your eyes
You don't smile like you used to (You don't smile like you used to)
My arms no longer soothe you (My arms no longer soothe you)
My words no longer move you (My words no longer move you)

No, no, no, no
I don't want to loose you baby
More than you'll ever know

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song 'Open Your Eyes' by Eric Roberson portrays a man who is trying to come to terms with the fact that his romantic relationship is falling apart. He expresses his willingness to pray for his partner's dreams to come true, even if that means his own exclusion from her future. He comments on God's plans to perhaps not allow them to be together, something he is now okay with; as much as he enjoys traveling together, he can't hold on to something that will eventually end. The chorus suggests that he is willing to walk away and let go of their relationship if that's what needs to be done to say "I Love You."

In the second verse, he mentions that he can see that there is something wrong with their relationship, that the feelings are gone, and no more warm kisses are being shared. He notes that their kisses and the love they once shared have lost their spark, and now it feels as cold as winter, yet he still doesn't want to lose her even though he recognizes that she doesn't quite feel the same way as she used to. Ultimately, he calls out to her to open her eyes to see the future, which is always open, adding that he doesn't want to lose her more than she'll ever know.
