I've tried so many times to put how this song makes me feel into words and it's nearly impossible. Anytime I'm out of words to say, or hope to feel or faith to be had; when my soul doesn't connect with my head or my head to my heart or my mind to thoughts on how I feel, this song speaks exactly what I can never say. It's really strange but they achieve it. Their music allows you to face your demons with your soul open. You suffer, cry and rage from the inside out, allowing you to accept everything bad human life has. It makes you embrace the darkness in your heart and mind, become one with it, and finally defeat it.

These guys are true musicians. Some bands simply just play music but these guys are amazing. Even though I have only been listening to them for only a few years now, it feels like I have been listening to Modest Mouse my whole life. I've been noticing lately that I've started to feel more and more anxious and stressed in my life, but no matter what I am feeling Modest Mouse is there to help me get through it. All of their songs are absolutely amazing, but this one is probably my favorite song of all time. It is filled with so much raw emotion and incredible and deep lyrics (though that could be said for all off their songs). Something about this song just really speaks to me. When ever I am feeling stressed out about school or what ever in my life I will always turn on Modest Mouse and start with this song. I love how like lonesome crowded and interstate 8 a lot of songs are like three chords on the guitar and played kinda sloppy and then there's songs like this that showcase how talented of a player he really is. Incredible. I wrote a paper on them in college it was sort of like an introduction to the class to write a paper on your favorite band and I could have made that paper like 10 pages long.

I heard this song for the first time when i was getting sober. After some time i begged and pleaded with my brothers to do the same, but they wouldn't listen. This is one of the most BEAUTIFULLY made music videos I've ever seen. Even before I figured out the pipit/on string metaphor for "getting out" I was commenting on the animatronic look to everything. Not to mention the light tones and copious background imagery just add to the experience. I've watched the video 6 times in the last hour and have felt more and more depth each time. I think this is the story the video is telling: one side of him wants to break free of the somberness and coldness of reality while the other, stronger side, is holding him back. I believe this because it shows him rolling out the twine, and then it shows him also, trapped and held down by the twine, showing that he is held back by himself. also, in the part when it shows him singing, he keeps almost levitating, but then coming back down.
