Once Upon a Dream
[Disney] Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know you
I walked with you
Once Upon a dream
I know you

That gleam in your eyes
Is so familiar a gleam
Yet I know it's true
That visions are seldom what they seem

But if I know you
I know what you do
You'll love me at once
The way you did once upon a dream

La da la da la ahahahahah
But if I know you
I know what you do
You'll love me at once

The way you did once upon a dream
I know you
I walked with you
Once Upon a dream

I know you
That gleam in your eyes
Is so familiar a gleam
Yet I know it's true

That visions are seldom what they seem
But if I know you
I know what you do
You'll love me at once

The way you did once upon a dream

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Disney's Once Upon a Dream are quite simple, yet they are filled with emotion and meaning. The first stanza consists of the singer declaring that they know the person they are addressing. They have walked with them before, once upon a dream. The repeated line emphasizes the feeling of familiarity between the two.

The second stanza describes the familiar gleam in the person's eyes. The singer acknowledges that visions can be deceiving, but they know that the feeling they have is true. They believe that the person will love them at once, the way they did once upon a dream.

The final stanza is a repetition of the first with a slight variance in the second line. The singer is addressing the person they believe they know and inviting them to love them again. The song is filled with a sense of longing and hope for the future.

Overall, the song's lyrics depict a romantic desire to be united with someone who is known and loved, even if it is just in a dream. The feeling of recognition and familiarity is a powerful one, and the singer believes that it is enough to rekindle the love that was once shared.

1950s version: Aurora singing about Prince Phillip

2014 version: Maleficent singing about Aurora

briar rose Actually, I think that Maleficent is singing about Stefan because I’ve read that this version of the song is about how love was found, felt deeply and lost somehow, but not forgotten.

They couldn't have found a better person with the right voice for the movie. Lana's voice is intoxicatingly gothic. She sounds like she is right from the 60s. Cinematic and a very rich voice.

I remember hearing this at the cinema when the movie ended, most people sat down again to listen even tho the room lit up.

@yatojehochu

They definitely should’ve kept the lights off for this one

This was the first time I heard Lana bc I remember hearing this song at the end of film and then my mom said this sounds creepy so she dipped out 😂. I wish I could’ve stayed in the theater to hear the whole song.
