It's...Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious
If you say it loud enough you'll always sound precousious...
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Hum-didalily-Hum didali-Hum-didalily-Hum didali
Hum-didalily-Hum didali-Hum-didalily-Hum didali

Because I was afraid to speak
When I was just a lad,
Me father gave me nose a tweak
And told me I was bad.
Then on day I learned a word
To save me aching nose.
The biggest word you've ever heard
And this is how it goes.
OOOO!

Chorus:
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Even though the sound of it
is something quite atrocious
If you say it loud enough you'll
always sound precocious
better use it carefully or it
could change your life......
[man:] example?
[Mary Poppins:]Yes?
[man:]One day I said it to me girl, and now me girls my wife.
Oh, and what a lovley thing she is to Hahmmm.
She's
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

Overall Meaning

The song Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from the film Mary Poppins (1964) is a song that embodies the imaginative and inventive spirit of the movie. The lyrics are an ode to the power of language and the idea that anything is possible, as long as you believe in it. The song suggests that by using this made-up word, one can conjure up feelings of happiness and wonder.

The opening lines of the song, "It's...Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious," suggest that the word itself is not necessarily pleasant to say or hear, but if one says it loud enough, they will sound "precocious" or witty. This speaks to the idea that confidence and boldness can make up for a lack of substance or meaning.

The second verse tells the story of a young boy who is afraid to speak until he learns the word "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," which saves him from getting hit on the nose by his father. This reinforces the idea that language has the power to empower and protect us, and that words can have consequences.

Overall, the song celebrates the power of imagination and creativity, encouraging people to think outside the box and embrace the wacky, wonderful possibilities that life has to offer.

Pass the time of day with me
I say me special word
And then they ask me out to tea

No, you can say it backwards, which is dociousaliexpilisticfragicalirupus
But that's going a bit too far, don't you think?
So when the cat has got your tongue
There's no need for dismay
Just summon up this word
And then you've got a lot to say
But better use it carefully
Or it could change your life

Mary Poppins was one of my favorite movies as a kid. Like, if I had to make a Top 10 favorite movies list in elementary or middle school, I would have put it on the list.

As a kid, I always wanted to say Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, but I could never get past "Super" without stuttering and getting stuck.

Back on New Year's Eve 2009, I watched it in the basement while my Mom got ready for her annual NYE party, and I thought "I want to try it again."

I listened to the word, and broke it up by syllable. Sup-er-cali-frag-ilistic-expi-ali-do-cious.

I couldn't believe it. I then slowly put a couple syllables together. Then more. Finally, I said the word in one piece!

I ran up the stairs: "MOM! MOM! I SAID IT! Super- Super... Just a minute."

I ran back downstairs, listened to it again, practiced, and then I ran back up to my Mom and said with pride:

"SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALDOCIOUS!" Since I had wanted to say that for many YEARS, she was very proud of me.

When all the guests came, I said the word for each and every one.

As of exactly one week (Merry Christmas Eve 2023!), I have been able to say the long word for 14 years! :)
