[Minus] was a rock band from Atlanta, GA, where vocalist Jordan Williams and bassist Lee met as high schoolers. The duo became [Minus] after uniting with guitarist Dustin and drummer Matt, and was soon struggling for gigs in the competitive Atlanta club and house party scene. Internet exposure led to a performance (alongside another young group, Incubus) on the short-lived TV show Farmclub.
[minus] attracted the attention of super-producer Ross Robinson (At The Drive-In, Slipknot) and Far/Onelinedrawing vocalist, Jonah Mataranga. Robinson hand-picked [minus] to win an opportunity to demo with him in a Shoutweb.com demo contest. Mataranga lent guest vocals to the band's emotional metal epic "Hesitant And Polite".
It was also around this point that threatened legal action persuaded Minus to add a period and "Driver" to its name. The newly christened [Minus.Driver] was then snapped up by Universal in November 2002 and promptly sent to Los Angeles, where the group recorded a five-song EP. A Message for You was issued in August 2003, and showcased the band's surging blend of post-hardcore dynamics.

The lyrics of [Minus]'s song "To The Sky" talks about a person lying down in the grass by their home, watching the day pass and admiring their private sky. As they lay there, they see a gull fly by and cut the air into pulses. The synchronized heartbeat that once existed between two people is gone, with the singer claiming to own the buried one. The blades growing through their arteries make them wonder if the person will return and harvest them. The person can't bear the thought of being left alone and is done if left to their own devices.
The second stanza has the person daydreaming while someone else comes and lays down beside them. The other person smells like cedar and roses, and their skin is cool to the touch, making the singer question if it's real life or if they're making it all up. The sky begins to grow deeper blue, and a satellite cuts through the view. The person feels the touch of a ghost, probably that of the person who once laid beside them.
In the last stanza, the singer remembers the short period when they lost the person who once laid beside them. They both drew their last breath, and the memories of that time are all they have left. The thoughts of being alone scare them, hoping that the person would come back so they wouldn't have to face the thought of loneliness.

This makes me cry. I remember doing a talent for show for school back then and performing this with my guitar and I won!!! I then went on to play fireflies the next year and won again!!! So nostalgic.
