I am from New Zealand originally (culturally and economically very similar to the USA) and it is similar there. My cousin who has the most children of mine used to use and deal crystal meth. His parents were alcoholics who my old money left wing grandfather gave control of a 5000 acre farm with 950 cattle and 7500 sheep to because he felt sorry for them. My cousin's mum once ran up a $100K tab on alcohol at a pub in a nearby town and she billed the farm account... no wonder they always struggled financially... anyway, their son has SIX children to three different women and abandoned his now ex wife with whom he had three of them. Dude is a sociopathic trainwreck and he's had more kids than most of my other, more sane, stable cousins put together. So it's not just the US 😳

Audiences hated the movie when it was shown in test screenings, mixed with the fact that the advertisers who had given Judge permission to use their brands were offended that they were portrayed poorly. Due to Fox receiving hate from the advertisers like Costco and Starbucks Fox decided to release the movie only in 7 theatres in major cities and only because they were legally required to put it in at least 7 theatres. They did the bare minimum the contract allowed because advertisers were threatening to blacklist Fox.

Companies should be confident in their product enough to let a movie parody them without threatening to pull ads on the parent company. Plenty of movies that had a poor test screenings ended up being cult classics like Cohen brothers movies. I'm not a commie but when companies aren't chill enough to get their balls busted by a comedy I think they should be brought back to reality or else we're gonna end up a full blown plutocracy.

My friend brought the movie over thinking I would not like it and we'd have a good laugh about how "idiotic" the movie was.
Then I saw the family trees. I was hooked. Haven't laughed like that as regularly and often in a movie for a long long time.
Shame that it's turning out to be a prophetic documentary of the future.

The opening of this film comes to mind frequently these days. The film itself is pretty silly, but the concept is prophetic, and the film's opening (here) is painfully brilliant.

Genetic changes via evolution take many, many, many generations. Hundreds of thousands if not millions of years. Intelligence is also not strictly genetic. The part that seems so close to becoming true is the barcode tattoo that he is forced to have and the reactions he gets for not having the tattoo. I got very similar reactions for not getting v’d or msking. Then the electric car he is in shuts down when a roadside scanner scans his tattoo and detects that he is a fugitive, then the police show up and shoot the car with machine guns and rocket launchers, in which random people begin joining in and even fighting the police for no reason at all. We are so close to this.

That actor has been in so many small scenes in shows and movies, he is quite the good actor. He was hilarious in Silicon Valley and legit starred in one of the most creepy scenes ever in film at the beginning of Mulholland Dr.

Except for the fact that it’s just “stupid Southerners” having kids and acting like idiots. I am from Alabama, was a flight attendant, lived in NYC, (for the most part ) ATL,& BOS. I’m a Christian married to a Jew. I’ve seen it all from every standpoint. The two main factors that can move a country above others in spite of IQ are oil and tourism. The main factor that can keep a country down in spite of high IQ, even after decades, is communism. Even WW2 had far less of an impact than communism. Japan and Germany are already leaders while every other country with a history of communism is lagging far behind. I know this is horrible to hear because it's.... quite catastrophic, but reality is what it is.

The genius of this movie is it transcends politics and other forms of social divisions. Republicans think this movie is poking fun at Democrats. I just watched this for the second time the day before yesterday. The last time I saw it was when it was released, and I never paid attention to any of the actors, but this scene when I watched it Tuesday had me scratching my head big time because the yuppie husband looked so familiar and all I knew was that he was in one of these hour long dramas that are set in the early half of the last century, and at first I thought it was Arnold Rothstein from BWE, but just now I looked it up and he's the dude from Mad Men! I saw a bit of the first episode and that's it bc it seemed kinda boring to me, but I still recognized the actor's face.

His grand pappy would be very disappointed in him.
