Time to Get Ill
[unknown] Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You got in a fight
And it was a big fight
And nobody won
And nobody wants to go alone
So you stayed up all night
And it was a long night
So you wrote a new song
But nobody needs another song

Cause it's all been said
Still you know you're gonna say it one more time
And get it right this time
And you know that it's too late
But you know you gotta say it one more time
To get it right this time
Get it right this time
Get it right this time
Get it right this time
Get it right this time

You're coming down hard
You're coming down real hard
And there's nowhere to land
And there's not even place for folks to stand
You're spinning around
You're bringing yourself down
You're singing that song
But nobody needs another song

Cause it's all been said
Still you know you're gonna say it one more time
And get it right this time
And you know that it's too late
But you know you gotta say it one more time
To get it right this time
Get it right this time
Get it right this time
Get it right this time
Get it right this time

Get it right this time
Get it right this time
Get it right this time

Get it right this time
Get it right this time
Get it right this time

Cause it's all been said
Still you know you're gonna say it one more time
And get it right this time
And you know that it's too late
But you know you gotta say it one more time
To get it right this time
Get it right this time
Get it right this time

Get it right this time
Get it right this time

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of [unknown]'s "All This Time" describe the pain and sorrow of losing someone who was once an essential part of life. The lines "She is just an ordinary girl, but to me, she means the world" portray how deeply important this person was to the singer. The sense of loss is compounded as the singer reflects on how he thought everything was going well, and how he had pictured a future together with this person. The phrase "Flash forward, I'm holding on tight to my pillow when I sleep at night" conveys how the singer is now struggling to find comfort in even the most ordinary things, such as sleep.

The chorus of "All This Time" begs the question of why this person had to leave and shows how the singer is struggling to cope with the reality of their absence. He recalls how they were the "best of each other," and that now he is left with nothing but a hole in his heart. The lyrics "Ever since the day we parted, my bed's been feeling so cold" not only speak to the physical absence of this person, but also to the emotional emptiness resulting from their departure.

In the final stanza, the repetition of the question "why did you have to leave?" finally gives way to an acceptance that the person is gone. The singer reflects on the strength of their connection ("you and I, no need to cry"), and asks if they can't just go back and start again. However, the ultimate realization is that the person has already left and the singer is alone. The lines "Now that you have left me, I've been feeling so alone" express the difficult and painful reality of accepting a new, solitary existence.

And all of this makes me...
All of these emotions and feelings are overwhelming and continuous, and I cannot escape them.

When my wife and I started dating, years ago, I turned to her and said, "HEY, WHATS THE TIME?!"
Without hesitation, she tilted her head back and yelled, "ITS TIME TO GET ILL!!!"

It was that moment I knew I had to marry her.
