Wake Up Irene
[unknown] Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Look how far we’ve come now
This is how it’s done
Some Love, Some Hate
However you frame it the faces change
Growth from Relationships
Knowledge from the pain
Inches away from death at any moment
Less time to explain
Saying goodbye, now what’s next
We will see each other again
Past memories remind me of how lucky I’ve been
Now I’m stuck to this pen
Sometimes my only friend
In an attempt to be like them
But who am I
Why try to rely on my health
I’m selfishly helpless but I’m primed to sell myself quick
I’m wealthy of spirit its eerie
You’re just like me but you don’t want to hear it.
Now c’mon brother WAKE UP
You too sister WAKE UP
We are all on the same damn plain now
WAKE UP
Needed a little bit of indifference
Satisfied by no means
Dwindled in the middle fit with phony riddles
Brash metaphors like high beams
It’s too much
Turn it off
Abort the course to force an idea
Hang for a second and I reckon you’ll be beckoned
With a message full of pressure non the lesser
We’ve been slaving for so long
Crazed and outraged
Better to be hated, debated
Then to cater to what they made you
Stay smart always
All days come to pass
Cast out the last doubt
Always stay thirsty
Encouraging and nourishing a younger generation
Let's face it they're over taking
Brother WAKE UP
You too sister WAKE UP

We are all on the same damn plain now WAKE UP
WAKE UP!

Amazing, but I remember both songs, Goodnight Irene and Hank's Wake Up, Irene. Great songs, both could've been about me back in the good old days, especially Hank's. But no, I kinda looked the part, I suppose, but I had been more interested in finding Mr. Right. I got laid a time or two, but finally found a guy who told me I snored...and married him. Ha. Amazing song, Hank. You' really had an eye for what made people tick, especially the ladies.
