Once in royal Davids city,
At a particular point in time, in the majestic city of David,

Stood a lowly cattle shed,
there existed a humble barn intended for housing domesticated animals,

Where a mother laid her Baby,
where a woman named Mary placed her newborn infant,

In a manger for His bed:
in a food trough that served as the infant's crib,

Mary was that mother mild,
Mary fulfilled the role of the caring and meek mother,

Jesus Christ, her little Child.
Her child's name was Jesus Christ.

He came down to earth from heaven,
Coming from the divine realm of heaven, he made his way to earth,

Who is God and Lord of all,
He is the supreme being, and the ruler of the universe,

And His shelter was a stable,
His place of refuge on earth was a livestock structure,

And His cradle was a stall:
His makeshift baby bed was a humble feeding trough,

With the poor, and mean, and lowly,
Choosing to live amongst the marginalized, oppressed, and humble,

Lived on earth our Saviour holy.
He lived a pure and sinless life on earth and was our savior.

For He is our childhood's pattern;
He serves as a model for us from our earliest years,

Day by day, like us, He grew;
He experienced growth and maturation every day, just like us,

He was little, weak, and helpless,
As a child, he was small, vulnerable, and completely reliant,

Tears and smiles, like us He knew;
He experienced the range of human emotions, including both joy and sadness, just like we do,

And He cares when we are sad,
He is concerned about our well-being, especially when we are in pain or suffering,

And he shares when we are glad.
When we experience happiness or joy, he rejoices with us and shares in our celebration.

And our eyes at last shall see Him,
Eventually, each one of us will see him with our own eyes,

Through His own redeeming love;
And it is through his act of saving love that this vision will become possible,

For that Child so dear and gentle,
For that precious and affectionate child,

Is our Lord in heaven above:
This beloved child is the ruler of the universe, residing in heaven above,

And He leads His children on,
He guides people as if they were his own offspring,

To the place where He is gone.
To the place which he calls home.
