Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The song "Автобус" by Ёлка tells the story of a seemingly ordinary bus ride that takes an unexpected turn when an elderly war veteran boards the bus. The song starts by describing the bus and its passengers, some engaged in conversations while others simply sit quietly. A young man sits next to his girlfriend on the back seat, appearing to be ordinary in his jeans and t-shirt, but there is something different about him - he seems burdened by life and prematurely aged.

As the bus reaches a stop, the war veteran struggles to climb aboard. Frustrated, he confronts the young man, questioning why he can't offer his seat. The veteran boasts about his sacrifices and how he fought in the war for five years, risking his life and nearly losing it. The young man, however, calmly rises to his feet and responds to the veteran, revealing that he too fought for him. His eyes reflect the horrors and violence he experienced, the devastation caused by the enemy, and the weight of the word "Afghanistan" on his shoulders.

The song concludes with the image of the young man, now limping, walking through the bus aisle as the passengers witness his physical and emotional scars. From that moment on, nobody dares to sit in his seat, recognizing the depth of the young man's sacrifice. The veteran, deeply moved, takes a seat and is overwhelmed with emotion, grasping his heart and shedding tears.

Overall, "Автобус" highlights the hidden stories and struggles that people carry within themselves, reminding us not to judge others based on their appearance or assumptions. It serves as a touching tribute to the unsung heroes who have fought and suffered for the freedom and safety of their fellow citizens.
