The Epilogue
††† Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's a strange day
The roses are in bloom
But in a strange way
I know somehow we're doomed

Look around, through the town
Not a soul to be found
In silence, not a sound
There's no one around but you
In the back of the car, on the way from the bar
In silence, here we are
Reminding us how we're doomed

Well get set, it's time we've come to the end
We've circled around our doom
And, I won't stop, not 'til I get what I want
And all that I want is you

In a strange place
When the sun goes down we move
Into a strange phase
Like we've got nothing left to lose

So we slip through the town, with our heads in the clouds
In silence, not a sound
For miles and miles around
Fall asleep in the park, underneath all the stars
In silence, here we are
Reminding of how we're doomed

Get set, it's time we come to the end
We've circled around our doom
Yeah, I won't stop, not 'til I get what I want
And all that I want is you

Is you
All that I want is you
Yeah, you
All that I want is you

So get set, it's time we come to the end
We've circled around our doom
Yeah, I won't stop, not 'til I get what I want
And all that I want is you
Now get set, it's time we come to the end
We've circled around our doom

Yeah, I won't stop, not 'til I get what I want
And all that I want is you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of †††'s song "The Epilogue" evoke a sense of impending doom that seems inevitable. The opening lines set the stage for the rest of the song by describing a strange day when roses are in bloom but in a strange way, suggesting that something is off. The singer then looks around the town and finds it deserted, reinforcing the sense of impending doom. Throughout the song, the singer's repeated assertion that they won't stop until they get what they want - namely, their love interest - suggests an urgency that cannot be ignored. The repeated refrain of "all that I want is you" serves as a stark reminder of the singer's singular focus on this one desire.

As the song progresses, the singer and their love interest slip through the town, heads in the clouds, seemingly oblivious to the wider world around them. They fall asleep in the park, underneath the stars, in silence, as if they are both alone in the world. But the sense of doom and impending fate still lingers, and the singer can't help but think about it. They know they've circled around their doom, and yet they don't stop. Instead, they become more focused on what they desire - their love interest - as if this desire is the only thing that gives them purpose.

Chino Moreno is a fucking angel. And his voice is perfection. I'm thankful for his existence and music.

@daddy8914

Woooaaahhh dudes FAR from being an angel ... do you recall literally all of his antics in the early years of Deftones? Still love the guy though, and he has undoubtedly come a really long way.

As a huge Deftones fan, I am appalled I just discovered Crosses. This should have been on the radio everywhere

@rhino202

You've listened to Palms and Team Sleep, right?

@frikoffmom

oh my god same. I've heard every deftones and team sleep song so when this song autoplayed on youtube I got so confused because it was Chino's voice but I never heard of it before. It was a really pleasant surprise. Turns out he has more side projects too that I somehow never heard of

@Reverands

Just found it. Algorithms bring out the weird stuff but also hide the great for years.
Too easy to get stuck the E-Bubble.
