The lyrics of Nero's song "Innocence" are quite sparse and repetitive, consisting mainly of the repeated phrase "You'll never be mine, innocence" and "Be mine." The overall mood of the song is one of regret and longing for something that cannot be had.
The "innocence" in the lyrics likely refers to a lost opportunity or a missed connection, and the repetition of the phrase underscores the singer's inability to accept this fact. The simple, hypnotic beat of the song adds to the feeling of fixation and obsession, as if the singer is unable to let go of something they never had in the first place.
The overall effect of the song is haunting and mournful, conjuring up feelings of nostalgia and lost chances. The repetitive nature of the lyrics almost becomes a kind of mantra, a way for the singer to obsess over what they cannot have.
Overall, "Innocence" is a powerful and melancholic song that captures the experience of longing and loss in a very evocative way.

Editor of the video here checking in and wanting to provide a little history lesson 12 years after this dropped.
I was working in a digital marketing agency at the time creating animated gif banners and hating every god damn second of it. My boss knew this and mentioned her friend (a recruitment agent) was looking for an agency to create a video for their friends (Joe and Dan of Nero). The budget was much too small for an agency to take on so my details were passed on and we arranged to meet.
At the time they were recording in Pete Waterman's studio in the County Hall on Southbank in London along with other soon to be big dubstep artists like Sub Focus. Anyway, I pop along to hear this 'new track' these unknowns had created, 100% prepped to hear some total garbage and fake smile and feign admiration etc. Well... obviously it blew my f**king mind.
Anyway, low budget, they loved this anime series. Asked me to cut an edit using the three episodes and throw in the odd band reference and visual and boom. It's 2022, 12 years later and it still gives me emotional chills every time I hear the song. I'm right back in that little studio room, a nervous, totally inexperienced junior motion graphics designer hearing a song for the first time that would go on to be a certified banger and somewhat genre defining record.
I will never stop listening to this, I will never stop loving it.
