Tush
β™ͺ ZZ Top Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I been up, I been down
Take my word, my way around
I ain't askin' for much
I said, Lord, take me downtown
I'm just lookin' for some tush

I been bad, I been good
Dallas, Texas, Hollywood
I ain't askin' for much
I said, Lord, take me downtown
I'm just lookin' for some tush

Take me back way back home
Not by myself, not alone
I ain't askin' for much

I said, Lord, take me downtown
I'm just lookin' for some tush

Overall Meaning

In ZZ Top's song Tush, the lyrics revolve around the singer's desire for a physical relationship with a woman. He mentions his travels, from Dallas to Hollywood, and his experiences of being "up" and "down", insinuating that he has experienced both successes and failures in his search for the aforementioned physical relationship. However, despite his past experiences, he is not asking for much, just for the opportunity to find what he is looking for.

The repeated line of "I'm just lookin' for some tush" is an obvious euphemism for sex. However, the phrase "take me downtown" could also be interpreted figuratively as a plea for a change of pace or scenery, suggesting that the singer of the song is looking for adventure and a break from the monotony of his life. The final lines of the song evoke a sense of nostalgia, as the singer yearns to return home, but not alone - implying again that what he is really after is companionship.

I think Frank Beard is one of the most underrated drummers, thanks for covering this song..

@DrumsTheWord

You're welcome, Steve! :)

@gmrios

Thank you so much for this video. I played this song years ago in my very early twenties with a band but never got a chance to really study it in detail. I basically had to learn it off the cuff on stage just based on hearing it a few times on the jukebox or the parking lot of the clubs through someones car stereo. Too busy at the time gigging to actually sit and woodshed with it. Now this song is back in my life in a new band. I have time now to really get it right. You're video really helped tremendously. Being a Texas drummer, you did a fine job on the Texas shuffle. Frank would approve. Videos like yours are way more useful than learning how to play a million beats a second (which absolutely ZERO hot chics are ever going to dance to.). This is a working Cats video lesson. Not a circus trick instructional video. Great job! Thanks again! I'll be back for more.

@DrumsTheWord

That's very cool to hear. Thanks for your kind support!

@HP47

Great analysis! I am a guitar player myself and have never thoight of the drums being so difficult on this one
