Nitro
♫The Offspring [1994 - Smash] Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Our generation sees the world
Not the same as before
We might as well just throw it all
And live like there's no tomorrow

We are the ones
Who are living under the gun every day
You might be gone before you know
So live like there's no tomorrow

Ain't gonna waste this live
The official view of the world has changed
In a whole new way
Live fast cause if you don't take it

You'll never make it
So if you understand me
And if you feel the same
Then you will know what nitro means

You'll live like there's no tomorrow
Ain't gonna waste this live
There's no tomorrow
You ain't gonna live it for me

There's no tomorrow

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Nitro" by The Offspring convey a sense of urgency and recklessness that is characteristic of the punk rock genre. The song begins by acknowledging that this generation sees the world differently than those before it. The singer suggests that rather than holding onto the past, it's better to live life to the fullest and not worry about the future. This is expressed in the lyrics "We might as well just throw it all / And live like there's no tomorrow."

The chorus of "Nitro" further emphasizes this idea, with the repeated refrain "Live like there's no tomorrow." The singer acknowledges that living this way can be dangerous, as they are "living under the gun every day," but they still choose to do it. The final lines of the song, "There's no tomorrow / You ain't gonna live it for me," suggest that the singer is not willing to wait for things to happen on their own and is willing to take risks to make the most out of life.

Overall, "Nitro" is a song that embraces the punk rock ethos of living fast and taking risks. The lyrics encourage listeners to make the most out of life and not worry about the consequences. The sense of urgency that permeates the song is conveyed through the fast-paced instrumentation and the repeated refrain of "Live like there's no tomorrow."

They earned every bit of their fame. Great band, super nice guys.

@jaaj9266

"Super nice guys" why don't they bring there drummer back after he refused the jab?

@Alex-Defatte

@RAWDEAL86 He didn't refuse it, he couldn't medically get vaccinated because of a pre-existing condition so he couldn't go on tour abroad with them. They wanted him back to tour with them when they returned to the states but he refused to rejoin the group. Get your facts straight.

Yeah man they were a big part of the Inland Empire scene with Face to Face, Vodoo Glow Skulls, Guttermouth plus lots of other bands. I remember going to see them at super small shows and hanging out with them. It was a fun time we had a venue Munchies in Pomona behind a burger store. Spankys in Riverside was crazy tons of punk bands played there. I remember when Smash hit became huge was living in SLO at the time. My guilty pleasure is "Pretty fly for a white guy" its cheesy as hell but people who are into pop not punk usually dig it same as "All the small things". Ignition was there best album for sure also earlier songs. Wally George Hot Seat was the best btw loved watching him his show was super entertaining. But yeah The Offspring are definitely a great punk band and helped Epitaph records as well.

@@joshbanks9261I’m from slo also. This was my favorite band way back in the day scating down California or higuera st or south st and this album ( smash ) was in my headphones along with ixnay and Americana at least 80percent of the time

It's funny seeing this now. My brother and I practice every Monday. We rarely play covers, but last night, I suddenly felt like playing "Gotta Get Away" on drums. My brother quickly remembered the chords and nailed the lyrics/vocals. We played the whole way through. It felt so good because The Offspring was the band that made me interested in guitar and to be better at drumming. Happy fucking 29th, you animals!
