My December
♫ Linkin Park Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This is my December
This is my time of the year
This is my December
This is all so clear

This is my December
This is my snow covered home
This is my December
This is me alone

And I
Just wish that I didn't feel
Like there was something I missed
And I
Take back all the things I said
To make you feel like that
And I
Just wish that I didn't feel
Like there was something I missed
And I
Take back all the things that I said to you

And I give it all away
Just to have somewhere to go to
Give it all away
To have someone to come home to

This is my December
These are my snow covered dreams
This is me pretending
This is all I need

And I
Just wish that I didn't feel
Like there was something I missed
And I
Take back all the things I said
To make you feel like that
And I
Just wish that I didn't feel
Like there was something I missed
And I
Take back all the things I said to you

And I give it all away
Just to have somewhere to go to
Give it all away
To have someone to come home to

This is my December
This is my time of the year
This is my December
This is all so clear

And I give it all away
Just to have somewhere to go to

Give it all away
To have someone to come home to

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Linkin Park's "My December" express a sense of isolation and longing for connection during the winter season. The repetition of "This is my December" emphasizes the personal ownership of this time and the emotions that come with it. The imagery of snow-covered dreams and home creates a sense of a safe place to retreat to, but there is a underlying feeling of emptiness and unfulfillment. The singer wishes they could undo the hurtful things they said that have caused a divide with someone they cared about. The lines "And I give it all away / Just to have somewhere to go to / Give it all away / To have someone to come home to" highlight the desperation for human interaction and the willingness to sacrifice everything for it.

Overall, "My December" portrays the complexity of emotions that come with the holiday season, which can be joyful and celebratory for some, while for others it may be a time of sorrow and loneliness. The lyrics convey a desire for healing, forgiveness, and a sense of belonging.

He sang this song for his father, now we sing it for him. Rest in peace Chester, you will never be forgotten.

I truely do miss his talents. RIP Chester.

Nathaniel Kile

I honestly didn't know for who, or why specifically this song was written but it always brought me back to watching my father take his last breath, and 2 days later lowering him into the ground. And now I play it for my toddler and infant whilst turning away every time they look at me so they don't see my pain.

Isnt his dad is still alive

Juggalo Jesus

I was wondering who it was about, thanks for letting me know. My dad passed away a year after this was released and a 6 year relationship I had ended shortly after that because my girlfriend didn't show up to the funeral... I understand this song in my soul now.

Israel88
