Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
The lyrics of レミオロメン's song 朝顔 describe a journey through a desert landscape, using metaphorical imagery to convey themes of struggle, perseverance, and self-discovery. The opening lines refer to a camel, with the singer acknowledging the challenges and burdens they must face, symbolized by the unforgiving desert environment. The mention of a camel's hump as "sand" alludes to the weight of responsibilities or obstacles that one must carry, questioning how far one can endure in the desert expanse.
The lyrics then shift to describe lizards that cannot release the rain they've stored, echoing the theme of holding onto burdens or emotions that weigh them down. The scorching sun and the image of eggs cooking on the hot ground further emphasize the harshness and challenges of the environment. However, the longing for water symbolizes a desire for something essential, representing a turning point where the singer begins to see what truly matters in life.
As the night falls and the insect eyeglasses are removed, suggesting a clearer vision or perspective, the singer invites the listener to walk through the desert together, noting the moon's reflection on the sand. The act of sowing morning glory seeds represents hope and growth in seemingly barren conditions, symbolizing the potential for renewal and beauty even in adversity.
The second verse delves deeper into the struggle within the desert landscape, with the repetition of "sand dunes" conveying a sense of monotony and obstacles that seem insurmountable. The horizon is described as a place of escape, where laughter fades and the longing for water becomes more pronounced, symbolizing a search for emotional fulfillment amidst challenges and uncertainties.
The mention of being bound by unnecessary things, contrasted with the simplicity of water that fills the heart, highlights the importance of focusing on what truly nourishes and sustains the spirit. By accumulating reserves of water and nurturing the blooming morning glory flower, the singer encourages perseverance and resilience in the face of adversity, suggesting that dreams and aspirations can grow even in harsh conditions. Ultimately, the lyrics suggest that despite the challenges and setbacks, the act of sowing seeds of hope and enduring through time can lead to personal growth and transformation.
