In the fall of 2005, Toki released her first original album, "Debut". The album didn't sell or chart well on the Oricon chart, but was well received by critics. She had many collaborators on the album including Ishiwatari Junji (former guitarist and song writer for SUPERCAR). Much like the year before Toki released another cover album in November, "STANDARDS gift ~Toki Asako Jazz wo Utau~". A few weeks later she released a live album, "Toki Asako LIVE@VILLAGE VANGUARD!!".
Another year would pass before Toki's next release. Her second original album (though it did contain a few covers), "WEEKEND SHUFFLE". It wasn't long after this release that Toki left her indie record label and signed with the major label, avex trax. She was placed under their rhythm zone sub-label, which is know for housing avex's hip-hop and R&B artists.
Take Me Out To The Ballgame
土岐麻子 Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
She had the fever and she had it bad
Just to root for the hometown crew
Every cent that Katie spent
On one Saturday her young boy
Called to see if she'd want to go
To see a show but Ms. Kate said no
Take me out to the ballgame
Take me out with the crowd
Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks
I don't care if I ever get back
Cause it's root root root for the home team
If they don't win it's a shame
Cause it's one, two, three strikes you're out
At the old ballgame
Katie Casey saw all the games
Knew the players by their first names
Told the umpire he was wrong all along
And she was strong
When the score was two to two
Katie Casey she had the clue
To cheer on the boys she knew just what to do
She made everyone sing this song
Take me out to the ballgame
Take me out with the crowd
Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks
I don't care if I ever get back
Cause it's root root root for the home team
If they don't win it's a shame
Cause it's one, two, three strikes you're out
At the old ballgame
Take me out to the ballgame
Take me out with the crowd
Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks
I don't care if I ever get back
Cause it's root root root for the home team
If they don't win it's a shame
Cause it's one, two, three strikes you're out
At the old ballgame
Take me out to the ballgame
Take me out with the crowd
Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks
I don't care if I ever get back
The lyrics of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” by Katie Casey express the love she has for baseball. Katie is a devoted fan of her hometown team and attends every game with her heart in it. She is never hesitant to spend every cent she has to support the team. The lyrics describe how her passion for the game is so intense that she refuses an offer to go out to see a show with her young boy one Saturday. Instead, Katie instructs her son to take her out to the baseball game, where she can root for the home team and enjoy the atmosphere of the crowd.
The song highlights Katie’s profound knowledge of the game as she knows the players by their first names and can even tell when the umpire is wrong. When the score is tied at two and the home team needs a cheering push, Katie has a plan, “to cheer on the boys,” through singing this famous song. The song is a classic representation of the American pastime and a way for passionate fans like Katie to support their favorite team.
