The song "Make Believe" by the Chinese singer and songwriter, Alan Tam, talks about a couple who has been through tough times in their relationship. The lyricist shows empathy towards his partner who's deeply hurt and trying to cope with her pain while keeping her love for him pure. The song starts with the acknowledgment of the ups and downs they have had in their relationship since the beginning. The lyricist is aware of the distress his partner is going through due to a broken heart, yet she claims to love him with all her heart. However, despite the declaration of love, something still feels off that's causing her distress. The lyricist goes back to the day they first met and how much his life has changed since then.
The lyricist acknowledges that life can be tough, and it can tear their love apart, and in such situations, they need a place to dream away the troubles. He suggests that they should make-believe that they are in love again and forget about the world's pain.
